Job Overview:

The Freight Coordinator oversees inbound freight logistics and is in charge of maintaining optimal stock levels for one or multiple distribution centers across Canada. This person supports the Team Lead and Inventory Planners in their day-to-day tasks. Duties include consolidating and organizing orders, closely monitoring shipments, sustaining partnerships with carrier services, and collaborating with Distribution Centers to ensure smooth product flow. The role focuses on enhancing customer service standards while aligning with the objectives set by the freight team. Additionally, the employee is responsible for mentoring, aiding in task completion, collaborating on assigned projects, and providing support outside regular hours.

Primary Responsibilities may involve, but are not limited to:

  • Process orders, arrange shipments, and assign freight transportation to external carriers.
  • Assess financial implications of requests from different departments and vendors related to additional charges and make informed decisions.
  • Monitor service timeliness to different subdivisions, address issues, implement solutions, and track outcomes.
  • Enhance transparency by overseeing processes, conducting audits, investigating problems, and troubleshooting operational functions.
  • Collaborate with carriers to ensure timely deliveries by monitoring truck movements, estimating arrival and delivery times, and managing loads efficiently.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers for spot services.
  • Work with other Distribution Centers to resolve stock issues, arrange transfers, or alternative deliveries as needed.
  • Coordinate product flow with Distribution Centers based on space availability and receiving schedules.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners (Distribution Centers, Suppliers, carrier services).
  • Act as a key contact for team members and stakeholders to address any internal concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Establish clear communication channels with Distribution Centers and other system associates.
  • Track and expedite urgent shipments to prevent disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Analyze internal freight performance metrics (delivery punctuality, profit margins, tender approvals, GPS tracking consistency, etc.).
  • Support the Team Lead in daily operations.
  • Engage in projects, manage overflow tasks, and collaborate with team members to provide assistance as needed.
  • Deliver additional training sessions when required.
  • Lead team meetings in the absence of the Team Lead.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant transport regulations and food safety standards.
  • Other specific duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Business Degree or equivalent and minimum of 2 years in Transportation/Supply Chain with expertise in freight operations or High School Diploma and at least 5 years in Transportation/Supply Chain with expertise in freight operations.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and time management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in various software applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Transportation Management Systems.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Comfortable in dynamic work environments.
  • Strong team player mindset.
  • Capable of coaching and supporting team members, addressing queries, and resolving issues effectively.
  • Adept at working under pressure and prioritizing urgent matters.
  • Proven capacity to represent the team and address high-level concerns when necessary.
  • Displays professionalism in all interactions.
  • Availability for rotating weekend after-hours support.
  • Capable of providing coverage during weekends, vacations, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of post-offer background screening.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Power BI Reporting and Fourkites.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data sources, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools.
