Role Responsibilities

This position is accountable to provide subject matter expertise to inform and integrate tourism and outdoor recreation priorities into land use planning processes at local, sub-regional and regional levels, as well as into the development of land use policies. This position will also support the broader implementation of Alberta's Tourism Strategy, leading the development of key policy initiatives with the goal of growing the visitor economy from $10 billion per year in visitor expenditures to $25 billion by 2035. The successful candidate will develop and maintain collaborative networks across ministries and Travel Alberta, and understand Tourism and Sport's strategic priorities related to Crown Lands and economic development.

Tourism and Sport is a lean and fast paced department. The successful candidate should embrace flexibility, thrive in a dynamic working environment, and be able to balance multiple priorities at once.

Responsibilities:

Advancing tourism and outdoor recreation priorities through land use planning to support growth of visitor economy Ensuring tourism priorities are reflected in cross-government initiatives Supporting the diversification of Alberta's economy by developing policy solutions to minimize impediments to commercial activity on Crown Lands Policy development and administration to support implementation of Tourism Strategy Drafting information requests/action requests/briefings

Qualifications

Required:
University education in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

The Successful candidate MUST also have:

Knowledge of land use planning and policy processes and frameworks. Extensive knowledge of policy development processes and practices.

Assets:

Knowledge of provincial, municipal and federal legislation, policies, and programs/supports that relate to tourism and outdoor recreation. Knowledge and understanding of economic development practices Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

Term of Employment: Permanent Full-time position

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week

Location: Calgary
