What responsibilities will you have in this role?

  • Provides technical expertise for clients, students, and faculty.
  • Evaluates a portfolio of tests to be performed at FX labs.
  • Develops a methodology and executes fees for service tests.
  • Performs testing on various equipment available in the labs to identify opportunities of research project or fee for service.
  • Possesses knowledge of laboratory practices, including maintenance, procurement, and accuracy.
  • Manages all lab operations, while adhering to best practices and procedures.
  • Attends vendors' training and workshops.
  • Liaises with Production and Facility Manager of Fashion Exchange to stay informed of technology laboratory operations.
  • Participates in networking events and trade shows to engage with prospective clients and promote FX services.
  • Offers demonstrations to showcase current and past projects.
  • Participates in meetings with Business Developers and Project Managers to scope and plan out new projects.
  • Demonstrates to researchers and students how to use laboratory equipment and how to record results and get accurate data.
  • Observes and guides student researchers to execute applied research projects following standard protocols and operating procedures.
  • Mentors and provides constructive feedback to student researchers to foster experiential learning and promote the successful completion of industry projects and class activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications do you need for this role?

  • Fouryear degree or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution in Textile Science & Technology and Apparel programs is required.
  • Minimum five years of handson experience in fabric and apparel testing and processes and procedures of a lab including têxtile lab operations processes.
  • Handson experience in garment features, construction, and design, and innovative clothing adaptations.
  • Experience in an academic institution considered an asset.
  • Research and scholarship experience is also considered an asset.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex issues and project management related problems or issues.
  • Excellent communication, time management, planning, and multitasking skills.
  • Experience working independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Strong attention to detail including solid analytical and investigative skills.
  • Able to travel between labs on a weekly basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg or 44 lbs. (i.e., Move boxes of fabrics from drawers to the table, or from a GBC room to the lab).
  • Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.
  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decisionmaking processes.

Hours of Work: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
