If you are a Registered Practical Nurse, we would like you to become a part of our Withdrawal Management Centre team.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Withdrawal Management Centre, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Offer person-centered care, guided by recovery principles, the RPN promotes healing and recovery, while instilling hope through demonstrating the values of the Mental Health and Addictions Program.
  • The RPN will provide clinical assessment and addictions and mental health nursing care for a patient population that includes individuals with complex chronic addictions as well as those individuals with severe mental illness and medical complications.
  • Nursing care is provided in accordance with the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CNA). This position requires that the RPN work as a member of an interprofessional clinical team
  • Participates in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as required
  • Engages in professional development and continuing education
  • Assists with program development and evaluation as required Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment

Qualifications:

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Practices in accordance with practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Canadian Standards of Mental Health Nursing, and Withdrawal Management Standards of Ontario.
  • Minimum 35 years nursing experience required.3 years' experience in mental health and addictions required and addictions/concurrent disorder specific training is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of psychotropic medication and related side effects required
  • Demonstrated understanding of addictions, concurrent disorders and Recovery models required
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Privacy Act, Health Care Consent Act, and other relevant legislation required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve issues with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Grand River Hospital Mental Health & Addiction Program comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis assessment, intervention, deescalation and motivational interviewing required
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and community service providers required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide in depth mental health/addictions assessments, risk assessments, mental status examinations, and development of crisis, and discharge plans required
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational, timemanagement, prioritization and problemsolving abilities
  • Proven to have strong interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word with strong keyboarding skills
  • Current CPR certification required Good attendance record
