The Role


The Head of Communications will be responsible for creating and managing the execution of publicity campaigns by securing opportunities in all media formats, to actively promote and magnify affinity for Monstercat's artist roster and brand priorities.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you are responsible for publicizing music releases across Monstercat's three brands to fans and media through the creation and servicing of press releases, bios, pitches, digital content, and other materials.

Within this role, you will also assist in the logistics and planning of promo tours and press junkets, as well as hosting media at special events and partner activations.

Additionally, you will spearhead all corporate communications efforts including thought leadership-building and brand recognition through conferences, awards, professional profiles, and industry lists.

The Head of Communications oversees the Communications Manager and the Radio & Promo Manager.

Responsibilities...
Media Relationships

  • Build, cultivate and manage relationships with relevant media entities including journalists, podcasters, KOLs, and other decision makers.
  • Cultivate a robust and uptodate internal database of media contacts for music, gaming, lifestyle, business, and events outreach.
  • Curate exclusive opportunities for Monstercat artists in partnership with leading media outlets, including social takeovers, live performances, print spreads, video content, and other unique activations.
  • Act as Monstercat spokesperson for all publicfacing inquiries
  • On an ad hoc basis, act as point person to manage external marketing and public relations agencies.
Communication

  • Write and edit press releases, bios, media alerts, press kits, pitches, and other materials.
  • Interface with marketing, events, music, streaming, and sync & partnerships teams to form cohesive objectives and PR strategies for all label priorities.
  • Act as artist representative / media liaison at press events, shows, and appearances as needed.
  • Provide media training support to artists and brand spokespersons as needed.
  • Ensure the Radio & Promo Manager is effectively crafting stories and sharing statistics around key releases for PDs and MDs to secure wins and deliver reports to the appropriate teams.
Content Marketing

  • Liaise with the marketing team to create EPKs, audio/video content, press images, etc. in support of music releases and brand activations.
  • Work with the sync & partnerships and marketing teams to align on a cohesive narrative and rollout of brand activations.
Artist Relations

  • Arrange logistics of appearances, interviews, photo shoots, and promo events for artists including travel and itineraries.
  • Coordinate artist activities and press schedules with artist management, tour managers, tour promoters, etc.
Team Management

  • Manage budget for the Communications team
  • Evaluate staff performance; complete quarterly staff checkins and annual employee development meetings with direct reports
  • Manage OKRs and ensure deliverables for direct reports
  • Support team with overcoming challenges and obstacles in achieving objectives
  • Build strong dynamics within your team by utilizing People & Culture resources
  • Fulfill department requirements for Monstercat's annual strategic planning process
  • Determine resource requirements to achieve annual department objectives
  • Be proactive in identifying constraints and/or improvement areas to support organizational growth with recommendations to Director and a path to resolution

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of copywriting experience
  • 5+ years publicity / communications experience in entertainment (music, gaming, tech)
  • Proven experience landing global media coverage through cohesive press strategies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and relationships with press and media in the entertainment ecosphere
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly for press release and pitch composition
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multitask on numerous objectives
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and resourcefulness
