  • Job Summary
  • Responsible for all aspects of audio recording production and postproduction and various aspects of event production for the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. Directly oversee Recording & Audio Technicians and any additional staff involved in all aspects of professional audio and video recording and postproduction. Provide highlyspecialized, advanced training to technicians. Advise the Production Manager and other UBC faculty, staff and students on all manner of technical aspects of Audio Recordings and Broadcasts for the Production Department of the Chan Centre for the Performing ArtsOrganizational Status
  • Reports to the Production Manager. Provides services to a campus wide network of students, faculty members, and units as well as a regional, national, and international client base.
  • Communicates with and advises internal university clients (including Theatre & Film Department, School of Music, and the Ceremonies and events office), external clients (managers of performing arts organizations, promoters, producers, and event organizers), and multiple service providers in order to ensure the smooth delivery of services.
  • Works closely with Chan Centre administrative staff, front of house, finance, programming, marketing, production staff. On an event by event basis supervises the hourly stage casual staffWork Performed
  • Provides highly specialized input related to audio recordings and broadcasts for the Production Department, including the design, planning, installation, and operation of all recording, audio, video, and event communications systems and related equipment within the Chan Centre.
  • Provides recommendations to the Production Manager on an ongoing basis regarding modifications and upgrades to audio, video, and event communications systems within the Chan Centre.
  • Assist in training, overseeing, and scheduling staff. Supervision of assistant head technician and stage technicians (all types) as required.
  • During evening/weekend events or performances may be responsible for the management of the facility.
  • Participates and provides input to the Production Manager regarding hiring decisions.
  • Plays a key role in the budgeting process, make recommendations for an annual operating budget for the Audio Department. Make recommendations for departmental capital purchases.
  • Oversees and ensure that negotiated client production requirements are met for each performance event.
  • Review all incoming client riders and makes recommendations regarding the audio recording requirements listed within those riders and coordinate audio recording requirements with vendors and clients for most events.
  • Advance all production aspects of events, recording sessions and broadcasts as needed.
  • Resolve, with direction from Production Manager, or the Director, client challenges related to Recording, Audio, and Stage areas.
  • Ensure effective implementation of new & previously arranged production services and specialized equipment to clients for their performances and related activities at the Chan Centre, keeping in line within the guidelines provided in the Chan Centre production policy and procedures.
  • Represent Chan Centre in a professional manner to the general public, clients, and artist's representatives.
  • Ensure the security of the building and safety of the performers, staff, and patrons. Operates within Worksafe BC, Chan Centre, and UBC safety guidelines at all times. Positively promote these safe work practices to other staff members and clients at all times.
  • Report deficiencies of building amenities to Production Manager or trouble calls to the Chan Centre Production Clerk.
  • Compile performance and event reports on the night of an event and submits to appropriate staff.
  • Act as the primary audio recording technician for most events.
  • Act as the Head Audio Technician (live events) or Audio Producer for select events.
