Position Overview:


This position will be responsible for developing and documenting technical standards and best practices promoting consistency in repair and rebuild standards.

Leveraging the experience of our partners at Caterpillar, OEM and the facility network, as well as seeking industry relevant comparisons by completing an external environmental analysis, this role will develop and promote consistent technical repair standards that considers opportunities to optimize workflows and standardize process and infrastructure.


This role will be the technical expert that focuses on reducing the frequency and severity of Service Warranty events by championing initiatives such as Caterpillars Reuse and Salvage Assurance and Contamination Control Programs.

They will lead service rework investigations to help improve Finning's "first time fix" performance, ultimately reducing the likelihood of recurrence leading to improved customer confidence.

Job Description:

Design Technical Best Practices


This role will leverage the suite of "Caterpillar Global Service Assessment" tools to inventory current processes & best practices across each of the organizations value streams.

Leveraging the output of these assessments they will develop action plans that promote consistency facility over facility.

Areas to include, but not limited to:

  • CRC (Component Rebuild Center Assessment)
  • Hydraulic Areas
  • Undercarriage Areas
  • Test Cells
  • Certified Rebuilds
Implement Quality Assurance Program


This role will be responsible for the successful implementation of Caterpillar quality programs into the dealership and developing systems to measure performance and conformance.


These programs are, but not limited to:

  • Reuse and Salvage Assurance
  • Contamination Control
Analyze Service Warranty & Bid Variance


This role will design and implement systems that support the thorough investigation of Service Warranty & Bid Variance events with the intent to develop and share best practices to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

They will analyze failure trends in SG&A submissions to identify technical training opportunities, tooling opportunities, as well as potential product issues.

Collaborating with the Technical Training Department and Service Operations teams as required. This role will also work closely with the Control Tower to implement learnings and build upon standardized work processes.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience with Caterpillar product groups
  • Proven ability to utilize a variety of software tools (M3, Smartsheet, databases, flowcharts etc)
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician prefered
  • Project Management Experience an asset
  • Previous operational experience with equipment and product support
  • Experience operating in a large complex changing environment
