Interior Health is seeking a term specific full time Assessment Coordinator to join the Mental Health (MH) team at the Community Health and Services Centre in Kelowna, B.C.

What will you work on?

This position supports case management and assessment of the Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions assessments for the Children's Assessment Network.

The Assessment Coordinator is responsible for a high volume caseload as well as supporting the work of doctors that are doing the diagnostics and assessments.


This position provides intake, triage, and assessment services for children with complex developmental behavioral conditions. As part of a multidisciplinary team, contributes the psycho-social assessment component.

Through interdisciplinary team practice the position provides therapeutic supports to children and youth moving through the assessment process, provides support to families, provides practical recommendations for intervention, and uses teaching strategies to enhance parent and caregiver skills.

Provides consultation, urgent psychiatric response, client/family/caregiver counselling, hospital liaison, care conferencing and care coordination, as required.

Scheduling Information:

Days of work are from Monday to Fridays and shift times are from 08:00 to 16:00 hours.

Some Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Receives referrals for the CDBC assessments from all areas in IHA.

As part of a multidisciplinary team provides a detailed review and triage for assessments into appropriate assessment streams or provides alternate recommendation to the referral source.

2.As part of the intake and triage process, provides direct psycho-social and family assessment. Obtains consents and collects relevant prior assessments and history. Administers appropriate instruments and measures according to standardized assessment protocols.

3.As part of the interdisciplinary assessment, prepares written assessment including assessment and treatment history as a key initial component of the assessment.

4.In consultation with the Team Leader provides input into policies and protocols for delivery of services using a best practice approach and incorporating the feedback and input of the interdisciplinary team.

Provides expertise for program planning by identifying gaps in service delivery and providing input into the development of policies, procedures, and protocols to improve care within mental health services and community using a best practice approach.

5.Advocates for clients needs by coordinating the involvement of other team members and/or health providers according to the needs of the client.

Ensures clients can access various community resources through direct liaison and advocacy where necessary.

6.Provides consultation to developmental disability care facilities, Mental Health Outpatient Teams, other referral agencies and caregivers to improve the care of clients with mental health problems.

Represents the program to other clinical programs and agencies as directed by the Team Leader
7.Writes and maintains reports and statistics of relevant observations of patient care. Prepares presentations, assessment and progress reports. Keeps clinical records and statistical records in accordance with policies and procedures.
8.Performs other related duties as assigned.
