Project Overview:


The Disrupting Inequities in Settlement for Black Newcomer Women project aims to enhance economic security and prosperity for Black Newcomer Women by identifying and addressing inequities in the settlement process.

The project will create a cohort of Black immigrant women, fostering collaboration with community leaders, cultural navigators, and policymakers. It includes, drafting policy change recommendations, advocating for equitable immigration practices, and informing agencies on effective support services.

The initiative will use a utilization-focused evaluation approach to ensure impactful outcomes tailored to Black Newcomer Women in Edmonton and Calgary.


Position Overview:


Reporting to the Manager of the WAGE Program, the coordinator will ensure active stakeholder communication, draft policy change recommendations, advocate for equitable immigration practices, and inform settlement agencies on support services.

The role includes using a utilization-focused evaluation approach to ensure meaningful and impactful outcomes for Black Newcomer Women in Edmonton and Calgary.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage and collaborate with community stakeholders to gather insights, foster participation, and create a cohesive cohort of Black immigrant women.
  • Assist in convening and facilitating working groups, workshops, focus groups, and interviews to address inequities in the settlement process.
  • Work with settlement agencies to enhance services and support for Black newcomer women, ensuring their needs are addressed.
  • Collect and analyze information from stakeholders to inform project development and policy change recommendations.
  • Review existing policies and processes to develop recommendations that benefit Black Newcomer Women and promote equity.
  • Develop core materials for service and program providers, including IPV modules, videos, podcasts, infographics, and handbooks, to support effective support services.
  • Collaborate with the project and communications teams to develop and maintain the project website, ensuring accessibility and relevance to stakeholders.
  • Manage project timelines, ensure deadlines are met, and maintain comprehensive project documentation in alignment with the signed agreement.
  • Support the creation and distribution of public relations and marketing materials related to the project, advocating for equitable immigration practices and highlighting impactful outcomes for Black Newcomer Women.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or college diploma in social sciences, community development, public health, business administration, or a related field.
  • 35 years of experience in project management, coordination, or a related field.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., CAPM or a Certificate/Diploma in Project Management) is an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge of public relations, communications, and community outreach.
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet).

  • Strong relationship management and community engagement skills.
  • Intrinsically motivated and adaptable to changing project needs.
  • Familiarity with African Canadian communities in Edmonton and an understanding of their unique challenges.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated community development and facilitation skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
