Job Summary
This position provides scientific and technical support to the CRD including; contracts and procurement, environmental investigations/site assessments, sampling, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
Qualifications
- A Science Degree in hydrogeology, chemistry, biology, or environmental sciences with 5 years of contaminated sites experience.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (or outofprovince equivalent).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
People working in this role can expect to be responsible for performing the following duties.
This list is not meant to be comprehensive and other related duties similar in scope and complexity may be performed.
- Coordinates projects for Hartland Landfill, the Residuals Treatment Facility and contaminated sites remediation by preparing project charters, identifying, scheduling and tracking project tasks and costs, including initiating procurement processes as required.
- Conducts environmental site assessments to determine areas of potential contamination and potential contaminants of concern (e.g., Preliminary Site Investigations).
- Researches applicable site history data, analyses and interprets and reports investigation findings.
- Designs and completes sampling programs for a variety of media (e.g., soil, groundwater, soil vapour, and surface water)
- Prepares, reviews and amends emergency sampling and spill response procedures and carries out any emergency response related sampling.
- Compiles sampling data, completes analysis and interpretation of the data and prepares technical reports presenting methods, results and recommendations. Compiles data in spreadsheet and database format and analyses time series and spatial trends using graphic and tabular formats.
- Analyzes site findings and results and proposes recommendations ensuring contaminated sites regulatory regime is followed.
- Interprets and/or prepares reports presenting status of compliance monitoring data. contract laboratories to ensure appropriate analytical methodology and quality assurance/quality control procedures are followed in sample analysis and reporting and reviews analytical reports for accuracy and precision.
- Coordinates and prioritizes sampling activities to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Supports preparation and evaluation of requests for proposals, contractor/consultant coordination, budget administration and report review for environmental projects. departments, as required.
- Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required
- Extensive understanding of contaminated sites investigation, remediation, and regulatory requirements in BC.
- Detailed understanding of typical safety risks and mitigation at contaminated sites and commitment to safe working environments.
- Technical experience in field sampling procedures (including preparing field logs), analytical methodologies, and quality assurance/quality control procedures including data verification and interpretation laboratory reports.
- Understanding of Hydrogeological concepts as they relate to migration of contaminants in groundwater systems.
- Welldeveloped organization skills and ability to work within a team environment, prioritize work, produce clear and concise technical reports, and use sound judgement to. produce results with a minimum of supervision.
- Expertise in various computer word processing, spreadsheet and project scheduling programs and databases.
- Proficient in conducting all aspects of environmental site assessments (e.g., Preliminary Site Investigations) to identify areas of potential contamination and potential contaminants of concern including data collection, interpretation, and reporting.
- Experience in developing and conducting field sampling projects and familiarity with the setup, operation and maintenance of manual and automated field sampling equipment, such as pumps, pH, and conductivity meters and data loggers.
- Experience with complex data sets, evaluating and interpreting data for time series and spatial variations, and developing technical reports.
