Job Summary


The Capacity Research Unit in the UBC-Vancouver School of Nursing is co-leading a community-based research project with community partner organizations in four sites across Canada including the Central Okanagan, titled "Scaling up Trauma and Violence-Informed Outreach with Women Affected by Violence." This project is testing the effectiveness of women-led and strengths-based approaches to outreach and one-on-one individualized support to benefit women living in those communities.

This project is designed to support women to engage with outreach teams in safe, respectful ways that foster trust and engagement with health and social care services.

This project adheres to the principles of strengths based, trauma informed, women led and non-judgmental.


The Community Research Coordinator for the Central Okanagan site is the primary community contact for the project, and will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and the community lead organization, Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society (COEFS).

The Coordinator functions at the interface among the Research and Community Leads and the outreach interventionists and provides coordination of communication and shared work processes for the site-based team.

This position is responsible for building connections and awareness in the community about the project, maintaining records of work activities, data collection with research participants, and working with the research team to ensure the outreach intervention is implemented according to study protocols.


The Coordinator provides mentorship and support to a team of outreach interventionists to support women in the community who are participating in this study.

The coordinator will also facilitate recruitment, conduct participant informed consent, enrollment and ongoing data collection, and contribute to the overall implementation of the project, including intervention fidelity as per the registered protocol.

A component of this position involves maintaining records of work activities, and working with the research team to analyze the effectiveness of the program.

This will be done with as mínimal impact as possible to the women participating in the project.


To support the implementation of the research activities in the Central Okanagan site, this coordinator will be primarily located in Kelowna in a shared office space within the Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society.

Some remote work and travel to Vancouver for research meetings may be required.

Organizational Status

This position reports directly to the Principal Investigator (or delegate) at UBC-Vancouver.

As a key member of the project team, the Coordinator works closely and collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and Community Lead, COEFS.

Data Collection & Management

  • Finalize project documentation in collaboration with the Research Manager and Principal Investigator
  • Work with manager on ethics board submissions
  • Build awareness in the community about the project; prepare presentations to community organizations and respond to queries about the project
  • Meet individually with potential participants to offer informed consent and enrollment in the research study
  • In adherence to study protocols and timelines, schedule and conduct data collection with enrolled participants including surveys and indepth interviews.
  • Track participant progress and data milestones (e.g., dates for surveys and outreach interventionist checkins with enrolled participants)
  • Review outreach documentation data, looking for consistency, coherence and complete documentation of outreach activities
