Manulife is looking for a strategic and experienced Director, Drug Evaluation to lead our initiatives in optimizing pharmaceutical coverage and formulary management.

T his position will be mainly responsible for overseeing the drug review process, managing formulary policies, and providing oversight of Product Listing Agreement (PLA) negotiation s.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the strategic development and evolution of formularies and drug management programs, such as Prior Authorization and DrugWatch, in alignment with overarching business goals.
  • Oversee the execution of the drug review process, including drugspecific formulary/program listing decision, using a rigorous evidencebased approach focused on clinical outcomes and costeffectiveness.
  • Provide oversight in PLA negotiations, to ensure the program is consistently delivering value to our group benefits clients.
  • Monitor and analyze program performance to identify opportunities for improvement, drive innovation and optimize program outcomes.
  • Manage relationships with thirdparty vendors and service providers involved in drug reviews and PLA negotiations, ensuring alignement with Manulife's objectives and standard of performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for pharmaceutical manufacturers, fostering strong and collaborative relationships.
  • Partner, influence and collaborate with multiple internal key stakeholders (Operations, Distribution, Finance, Marketing), to ensure seamless integration of pharmacy solutions and to build and strengthen teamwork, performance and efficiencies. Provide strong leadership and guidance to a team of professionals responsible for drug evaluation, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and execution excellence.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies):

  • University degree in Pharmacy or related health field; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, ideally in a role related to drug evaluation (private or public payer), PLA negotiation and/or market access
  • Solid understanding of drug evaluation processes, including its clinical and economic considerations (pharmacoeconomic modeling, budget impact analysis).
  • Leadership experience in managing high performing team
  • Strong understanding of group/pharmacy benefits, including Manulife's offering and Canadian industry trends
  • Proven excellence in developing and managing strategic partnerships
  • Ability to work across a complex, fastpaced and dynamic environment both internally and externally to lead teams with multiple mandates and differing value drivers
  • Proficiency to summarize complex and technical concepts/information, to enable decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal and prioritysetting skills Excellent presentation skills, including PowerPoint, graphs, charts, etc.
