The CDPE is recruiting a Research Assistant II. The research assistant will hold a part-time temporary position at St. Michael's Hospital (15 hours per week; 12 months, with the possibility of extension).


The primary responsibilities of the research assistant will be to support the Research Coordinator on various administration and outreach tasks associated with our Toronto Disparities, Overdose and Treatment (T-DOT) cohort study.


This study includes research on:

  • A study to examine people's experiences with harm reduction hubs (e.g., sites that include a mix of supervised injection services, drug checking services, safer supply, and health and social service referrals) in Toronto over time, and the impact these services have on the health and social wellbeing of different communities of people who use drugs.
  • A study to evaluate safer supply programs and injectable opioid agonist programs being implemented at partnering community health agencies in the downtown core.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the investigative team in the development and implementation of work plans, study protocols, study materials and processes, and manuscript production schedules
  • Supports development and coordination processes related to data management, analysis, and transfer
  • Builds research study surveys using online survey tools
  • Connect with partner agencies for research related tasks such as data collection, replenishing honoraria and documentation, etc.
  • Recruit study participants, in collaboration with staff through outreach activities and at participating community organizations
  • Support the retention of study participants
  • Manage study documentation, including study logs, honoraria logs, consent forms, etc.
  • Adhere to research requirements as per the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS2) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Provide project assistance and administrative support to the Research Coordinator as required
  • Supports knowledge translation and exchange activities (contributing to peerreviewed publications, study reports, and presentations)

Qualifications and skills:

  • Undergraduate degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience with Simple Survey software and excel
  • Prior experience working with people who use drugs is an asset
  • Experience working and/or completing outreach activities with community mental health and addictions organizations
  • Firm understanding of issues experienced by people who use drugs gained through lived and/or professional experience
  • Superior data management experience using excel
  • Strong engagement with Toronto's harm reduction community
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Strong oral communications skills
  • Strong computer skills specifically Microsoft Office
  • Position requires flexibility to:
  • Travel between St. Michael's Hospital and participating community organizations
  • Work flexible hours
