Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Lifeskills Literacy Instructor, for service provision to York Region and Simcoe County.
Reporting to the Manager, Training Services, the Lifeskills Literacy Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in language and essential skills training to Deaf and hard of hearing adults in a learner-centred, goal directed, and strengths-based learning environment.
This will include teaching classes on the communication, numeracy, and digital literacy skills needed to secure and maintain employment, further education, participate in training opportunities, and increase personal independence.
This is a contract unionized position, working Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. for 46 weeks, requiring a combination of in-person and virtual instruction.
You are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of Deaf culture. Equivalent certification such as the Deaf Practitioner's Certificate through the Deaf Literacy Initiative would be an asset.
We are also looking for an enthusiastic individual who has superior time management and organizational skills and can work well under pressure to manage a varied workload with competing priorities and deadlines.
