What you will do:

The Collections Assistant will be charged with cataloguing our artefact, art, and archival collections.

Working directly with the Curator, the Collections Assistant will work with collections, cataloguing, conduct historical research, and engage in community education.


The core responsibilities will be split between inventorying our collection and preparing a public catalogue of items to be hosted on our website, building and maintaining an inventory and salvage list for the Business Continuity Plan, and preparing a social media campaign that draws on the collection to provide public education focused on our local history while also building community engagement digitally.

The aim of this project is to ensure proper documentarian and care of our collection of locally relevant artefacts, artwork, and archival materials and make information accessible.


What you bring to the role:

Education:

Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Collections, Museum Studies, arts, anthropology, history, media, arts and culture, or similar.

Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum oneyear total previous work experience with heritage and/or archival materials, community relationships, history, or in an arts, heritage, or museum setting specifically in collections, archiving (including volunteer and internships)
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to cultural inclusion and accessibility;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in recording information;
  • Strong organizational & research skills;
  • Strong independent initiative and organizational ability;
  • Willingness to think creatively to build community, particularly through digital engagement;
  • Previous experience with collections, and/or archival practice an asset.
