Empire life is looking to hire an Actuary, Specialty Products to join our Group Finance and Actuarial team

The Actuary, Specialty Products is responsible for the actuarial pricing, profitability and risk analysis of new, innovative insurance products and initiatives. An expert on all actuarial elements of the product life cycle (including pricing, reserving, capital management, modelling and risk analysis), the position will be responsible for ensuring sound pricing practices and profitability for new product initiatives. The position is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the general direction of the Vice President, Group Finance and Actuarial.

What you'll be working on

Lead the initial pricing analysis, modelling and ongoing performance monitoring of new specialty product initiatives for the Group Solutions line of business Support Product & Marketing teams in the launch of new products as well as ongoing analysis to ensure existing products remain competitive in market place while continuing to achieve profitability objectives Oversee reserving and valuation results in respect of specialty products Maintain strong working relationships with reinsurance partners to support ongoing product development and risk management objectives of specialty product portfolios Ensure all pricing activities are compliant with relevant corporate policies (Product Design & Pricing, Model Risk Management, etc) Present pricing and risk management recommendations to Empire Life senior management teams, including Group Solutions Leadership Team and corporate oversight committees.

What we're looking for you to have

Completion of FSA and/or FCIA designation 8-10 years of relevant work experience in actuarial roles within the life insurance industry Advanced actuarial and modelling skills, including practical experience in the pricing of insurance products Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing software Working knowledge of actuarial applications (AXIS, etc) is nice to have Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop recommendations that balance competing objectives Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple competing priorities Working knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory capital requirements for the Canadian Life insurance industry If you are applying for a position which is open to applicants across Canada, unless otherwise indicated in the position, language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
