DEFINITION:
_


Under the direction of the Deputy Treasurer, performs a variety of accounting, clerical and reception duties associated with the Finance Department, as well as office overload and support for the Finance Department and other City departments as required.

**_

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
_**- _ Perform reception duties and deal with the public in a friendly and proficient manner;_
- _ Receive payments and process them through the cash receipting system, reconcile and balance cash daily;_
- _ Maintain tax and utility masters, and process changes such as new subdivisions/amalgamations, address and property owner information from B.C. Assessment Authority and Land Title, by-laws, amended tax notices and adjustments, etc.;_
- _ Process bylaw and latecomer information on masters, and update maps and masters regarding frontage taxes;_
- _ Prepare and run tax notices, process penalties, answer enquiries, process Pre-Authorized Payments, and issue tax notices, as required;_
- _ Maintain, follow-up and process Applications for Service (taxes and utilities);_
- _ Maintain Client Codes;_
- _ Reconcile accounts (taxes, utilities, NSF cheques, etc.) as required;_
- _ Monitor issuing of transit tickets and passes to outside agencies, prepare monthly transit report, count transit coin, and prepare deposit;_
- _ Process all money received by other departments, except for Recreation;_
- _ Maintain a Bring Forward (BF) file, as required;_
- _ Open vault in a.m. and lock up in p.m.;_
- _ Cover Accounting Clerk III duties, as required;_
- _ Perform data entry and switchboard duties, as required; _
- _Other related duties, as required._

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
_

- _ Secondary school graduation;_
- _ Minimum of three years' related work experience, including cashier and bookkeeping experience;_
- _ Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment using Vadim software, with Word and Excel;_
- _ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;_
- _ Demonstrated ability to use financial formulas and spreadsheets;_
- _ Demonstrated ability to reconcile accounts;_
- _ Familiarity with General Ledger account structures;_
- _ Familiarity with City Tax Master would be an asset;_
- _ Ability to operate related equipment;_
- _ Accurate typing speed of 50 wpm;_
- _ Ability to work independently, set priorities, organize work, accomplish tasks and assignments, meet deadlines and manage a large volume of work with ever changing priorities in a flexible manner, often under pressure;_
- _ Accurate data processing skills both keyboard and calculator (efficiency is essential);_
- _ Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers and the public, using demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, in order to convey information and explain technical and procedural matters;_
- _ Good written and oral communication skills;_
- _ Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence._
