Why is this role important?

  • The Analytic Techniques and Tools (AT&T) department provides technical expertise in the development of advanced analytic tools and methods for use by health service delivery professionals and policy makers. The AT&T department also fosters alignment, collaboration and knowledge exchange across the organization in the area of advanced analytics tools and methodologies.
  • The Program Consultant is responsible for leading technical and methodological support to analytical teams across CIHI in developing products using the R language; and fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Provides leadership and expertise on the technical and methodological direction of products and services to support CIHI's overall business strategy.
  • 2. Supervises and coaches staff within a matrix environment.
  • 3. Leads the CIHI analytical teams to develop products, using R programming language.
  • 4. Provides consultation and guidance on creating topquality clean code and participates in peertopeer code review.
  • 5. Prepares documentation, reports, and presentations related to projects and activities.
  • 6. Shares knowledge and expertise across the organization; Provides learning opportunities and knowledge sharing to CIHI staff related to advanced analytics, machine learning methods and data visualization.
  • 7. Meets timelines and milestones by monitoring deliverables. Accurately identifies resource requirements and potential risks.
  • 8. Evaluates all products and services to ensure that they are completed in compliance with CIHI Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures, including the ethical use of data.
  • What you'll bring to the table
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Economics, Computing Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Advanced experience with R programing language to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets. Working experience with SAS or Python is an asset.
  • Five years of experience leading analytical activities including data visualization, statistical analysis and machine learning, including good software engineering practices (e.g., code optimization, version control).
  • Working experience with big data and data visualization.
  • Experience designing and building analytical solutions to solve realworld problems, with effective selfdirection.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coach staff.
  • Familiarity with high performance computing is an asset.
  • Strong problemsolving skills, with an emphasis on product and service development for business decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to document findings and communicate complex ideas in simple terminology (both orally and in writing).
  • Understanding of Canada's healthcare system is an asset.
  • Ability to fulfill occasional travel.
  • Written and oral fluency in English is required.
