    Position Overview:
The Direct Service Supervisor - After Hours is responsible for after hours functions performed within the After Hours Unit.

The Direct Service Supervisor - After Hours is responsible for ensuring the agency's standard of service is consistent with the requirements of the Child and Family Services Act, 1984 as well as the agency's mandatory policies and procedures; developing and maintaining effective working relations with staff members and other community service providers; and other duties that may be assigned by the Service Manager.


Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Ensure that the Service Manager is informed of issues which affect agency policies and /or procedures.
  • Maintain standards under Tikinagan Child and Family Services Service Policies and Finance & Personnel Policies Manual and to ensure that staff adheres to the Tikinagan and First Nation Law and Standards.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Mamow Obiki Ahwahsoowin Model.
  • Supervise, direct and support staff through regular supervision.
  • Will include receiving initial referrals and enquiries for agency services after regular working hours. Ensure all requests for service are documented.
  • Ensuring that child abuse allegations and other crisis calls receive immediate attention.
  • Maintaining complete records of all client related contacts with the agency.
  • Will be required to meet with the Service Manager the following morning to conduct Case Transfers to the appropriate Agency.
  • Will be required to know how to use the Eligibility Spectrum to determine whether referrals are eligible for our services or not.
  • Must have knowledge of what paper work is required to complete an investigation on differing file types (i.e. case not open, open file, foster home.)
  • Must know what steps are required to proceed with different types of investigations.
  • Will be required to read and sign off completed initial investigation packages.
  • Will be required to consult with On-Call/After Hours Protection workers when they respond to Child Protection emergency response.
  • Will be required to complete investigation plans with the On-Call/After Hours Protection Workers.
  • Will be required to participate in verification conferences and/or case transfer conferences.
  • Promote and maintain effective staff relations.
  • Will be required to mentor and coach new On-Call/After Hours protection workers.
  • Will be required to conduct performance evaluations on On-Call/After Hours workers alongside the Service Manager.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Service Manager.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Demonstrate academic/educational qualifications and at least two years experience in the field of child welfare preferably with a diploma or degree in an appropriate field of Social Work.
  • Be aware of the cultural environment of Nishnawbe-Aski Nation that Tikinagan serves.
  • Be creative in problemsolving and empathetic toward the children, families and communities of the area served by Tikinagan and the community being served.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the recording package and the Eligibility Spectrum Coding.
  • Must provide direction and support to the On-Call/After Hours Protection workers.
  • Must possess interview skills and have knowledge of ages and stages of development of children.
  • Must have knowledge of the Protocols utilized between Tikinagan and other community resources for purposes of conducting investigations.
  • Experience with a computerized database system, an asset.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must be an authorized protection worker.
