Kinnect House Intensive Causal Group Home Shift Worker for Youth

  • The Job_
We are looking to hire a Causal Group Home Shift Worker. The Kinnect House is a semi-residential group home that works with _youths_ with behavioural disabilities.

The primary role of the shift worker is to deliver quality care for children with special needs who have an FSCD contract.

This allows the child's family to have a break from caring for family members who need extra support. Kinnect House care providers lovingly and skillfully meet the physical, mental and emotional needs of the child.


During the client's stay, the shift worker is required to prepare meals, ensure a clean and safe living environment, engage in and encourage participation in activities, and assist in life skills teaching including behavior management.

We provide training in DBT, behavioral interventions and physical restraints.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with youth in daytoday activities.
  • Practice therapeutic skills with youth provided in training and from our therapists.
  • Transportation to and from therapy appointments and school.
  • Medication administration.
  • Support youth in completing implemented expectations and privileges.
Your job may be to take the youth to a movie or work through a big behaviour with them - every day is different

  • Requirements_
As a shift worker, you

  • Have the knowledge and skills to effectively manage an escalated child or youth
  • Are able to actively listen, identify needs and provide appropriate solutions to the client
  • Are able to identify and acknowledge emotions and handle situations with compassion
  • Have the capacity to build and maintain rapport with clients and their guardian(s)
  • Are able to respond and engage with empathy and understanding
Other Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills (including report writing skills and oral skills)
  • Experience and competency working with Microsoft Word
  • Relevant education, skills and experience preferred
  • Ability to interact with children/youth in a positive manner, despite challenging behaviors
  • Excellent understanding/empathy in dealing with cultural and racial differences
  • Knowledge of deescalation techniques. Non-Violent Crisis Deescalation Certification is an asset
  • Willing to take further training if necessary (provided by our agency)
  • Willing to be trained to use Respitrack data entering system
  • Strong and creative problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude
  • Ability to manage deadlines
  • Understanding/knowledge of the FSCD, or the Child Welfare System is an asset
  • Up to date IRC and CRC relative to contract position;
  • Valid driver's license, $2 million vehicle liability insurance coverage
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Level C
