The Role

  • Contract Instructor — Choral Ensembles
    Responsibilities
  • Conduct choral ensembles in the department's credential programs, as well as students registered in the Community Music School;
  • Plan, organize, and manage learning activities, including choosing appropriate repertoire, conducting regular rehearsals and endofsemester concerts, while maintaining quality learnercentred instruction;
  • Assess and evaluate students' progress and achievement;
  • Participate in the choral ensembles admission process, including hearing auditions and conducting interviews;
  • Maintain currency of choral ensemble courses;
  • Maintain the community profile of the choral ensembles;
  • Engage in outreach and student recruitment; and
  • Maintain currency in the field through professional development activity.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Music or equivalent experience;
  • A strong performance profile and excellent musicianship;
  • A demonstrated ability to teach across a variety of musical styles;
  • Extensive knowledge of choral ensemble repertoire and pedagogy;
  • A record of successful teaching at the postsecondary level;
  • Experience with curriculum development and revision an asset;
  • A demonstrated ability to work with a population of diverse adult learners;
  • A strong commitment to maintaining and growing enrolment in ensembles;
  • A commitment to Department and College service;
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative and creativity, effective interpersonal skills, and selfdirectedness;
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
