Base salary around $80,000 - commensurate with level of experience The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) is a self-financing authority independent of government, with the mandate to license and inspect Ontario's more than 780 retirement homes where over 60,000 seniors live.

The RHRA is an agent for positive change, by working with the retirement homes sector to increase the protection, safety and well-being of our aging population.

The RHRA administers the Retirement Homes Act, 2010, which involves licensing homes, educating licensees, consumers and the public about the standards regulating retirement homes, carrying out inspections of retirement homes, and taking compliance and enforcement action as needed.

The RHRA's guiding principle is that a retirement home should be a place where residents live with dignity, respect, privacy and autonomy, in security, safety and comfort and can make informed choices about their care options.

The RHRA is seeking candidates for the role of Specialist, Retirement Home Safety Response who will, under the direction of the Inspections Manager, be responsible for identifying, establishing, and maintaining relationships with community partners in order to coordinate support for licensees undergoing acute challenges.

The incumbent will facilitate emergency support and coordination to operators in developing action plans in response to crisis or emergency situations, with the ultimate objective of ensuring homes are in compliance with the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 and its regulation and ensuring residents are safe and secure.

Success in this role will be achieved through excellent client service delivery, communication, and the ability to build and maintain lasting relationships that can assist retirement homes in mitigating emergencies and crises.

The incumbent must be able to interpret and apply legislation, and to explain legislatively complex information to various partners.

Specific accountabilities include:
Maintaining a network of community partners to support retirement homes in managing or avoiding crises situations.
Acting as community liaison between municipal/community agencies and retirement homes in crisis or to support compliance.
Networking effectively to acquire and develop appropriate community partner relationships.

Responding to retirement homes in crises to provide stabilization and identifying when and to whom situations need to be escalated.

Making compliance and enforcement recommendations to the Manager.
Collaborating with RHRA staff to determine how to measure and evaluate effectiveness of interventions. Working with cross-functional project teams (i.e. intake, licensing, inspections, enforcement, etc.) by providing analysis and contributing to strategy development, implementation, and evaluation.
Identifying opportunities for education to retirement home operators to ensure comprehension of, and alignment with compliance requirements.

Establishing and maintaining a partnership evaluation protocol that ensures that potential partner organizations are responsive, managed openly and effectively, and work with similar or complimentary objectives.

Promoting the aims, policies, and objectives of Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) to its community partner organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or related undergraduate achievement or equivalent of education and experience in a related fieldCrisis management experienceProven partnership building skillsAt least 3 years of related/transferrable work experienceDemonstrated competency and achievement relating to legislative and regulatory requirementsKnowledge of retirement homes sector, seniors' healthcare, and housing issuesProven experience with driving improvements in regulatory compliance

Required Competencies:
Solid understanding or ability to quickly learn the Retirement Homes Act and regulation to effectively interpret requirements and communicate to partnersAble to work in a crisis while performing multiple tasksDemonstrated experience in working in a role that requires flexibility and adaptability Planning capabilities with demonstrated political acuityExcellent relationship management skills with an ability to engage, build trust, and collaborate with a variety of partnersExcellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be precise and direct in communicating to internal and external groups and to prepare high quality documents for internal and external reviewEffective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracyStrong work ethic and positive team attitudeA well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skillsMaintenance of professional skills and refine expertise through appropriate developmental activitiesProficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

RHRA currently operates in a hybrid work environment with the expectation of a minimum of one day per week of work from the RHRA's Toronto office, with some flexibility for working from home.

Required office equipment (laptop, headset, softphone) will be provided.
