With a purpose to protect the public by promoting safe nursing practice, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), is the regulatory body for over 195,000 registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) in Ontario. Since 1963, CNO has set the requirements for entry to practice, established standards of practice, ensured a high quality of care, and held nurses accountable for their conduct and practice. Located in downtown Toronto, with over 400 staff, CNO acts in accordance with legislation from the (RHPA) and the of 1991.

CNO is seeking an outstanding leader for the position of Chief Practice Officer (CPO). Reporting to the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Practice Officer will establish the direction and provide strategic guidance for Professional Practice, Registration and Customer Service, and Professional Conduct teams to deliver and implement practices related to applicant assessment and registration, continuing competence and practice quality, education program assessments and approvals, and the investigation and disposition of complaints and concerns regarding the conduct and competence of nurses.

The CPO will ensure that appropriate resources are available to Committees of Council and working groups. They will: provide consultation and expertise to support the development or revisions of transparent, fair, and enforceable regulations and bylaws governing operations of CNO, subject to Council's regulation-making authority; identify policy gaps and potential enhancements required to enable organizational success; provide consultation and expertise to functions and roles concerned with the implementation and delivery of regulatory policies and programs.
