Job Overview


Our Information Security team plays a key role in keeping the business running smoothly, as the Information Security Analyst, it is your responsibility to stay focused on everyday priorities.

The Information Security team responds and actions internal and external alerts and manages incidents based on criticality. When not focusing on incident response, the team supports organizational projects along with internal security projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitor, identify and validate security events generated from internal SIEM and feeding subsystems.
  • Actively work in monitoring, event and incident management tools. Contribute to the development, implementation and finetuning of SIEM use cases/associated rules and other security control configurations to enhance threat detection capabilities.
  • Perform guided analysis of security event data to identify suspicious behaviors that should be reviewed and develop new handling and countermeasure procedures.
  • Respond to critical business impacting situations and coordinate the efforts required to engage the proper resources to remediate the issue.
  • Provide general support for Security Information Event Management (SIEM) tool changes, tweaks, additions and updates.
  • Provide security guidance to team members across the organization how to best identify, contain and remediate security related incidents.
  • Communicate and work with the rest of the IT team
  • Work with external auditors and consultants to ensure MEC's information systems and data are appropriately maintained/protected.
  • Provide input to daily Information Security huddles on your work and current security event trends.
  • Provide regular input and feedback on process improvements and automation of event handling.

Qualification

  • Proven ability to communicate with peers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • High level of personal integrity, with the ability to handle confidential and otherwise sensitive matters professionally and with the appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
  • High degree of initiative, dependability and ability to work with little supervision
  • Excellent diagnostic and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with coworkers and to work effectively in a professional team environment.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment, where knowledge and ideas are openly shared.
  • Ability and opened to learn in a quick paced environment.
  • Obtained or working towards bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Obtained or working towards one of: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control, Certified Ethical Hacker, Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC).
  • One year + of experience in Information Security (completed Information Security related schooling is considered experience)
  • Working understanding of OWASP Top 10 and SANS Top 25 and ISO 2700
  • Working technical knowledge of log management platforms including Syslog and at least one enterprise class SIEM.
  • Strong understanding of IP, TCP/IP, and other common network protocols.
  • Good working knowledge of security principles and trends in the security industry (vulnerabilities, threats, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of working with Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Awareness of content filtering, firewall monitoring, IDS/IPS systems, SIEM tools, vulnerability scanners, and cyber security techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages (bash, powershell, python).
