In collaboration with the Director, Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Leadership and Management teams and university program stakeholders, the Coordinator, Pharmacy Practice Residency develops, coordinates and implements the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program.

Develops standards, best practices, policies and procedures, resident learning outcomes, evaluation and feedback systems ensuring consistency throughout the Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services.

In collaboration with the Coordinator, Student Experiential Learning, develops and implements a lower mainland pharmacy mentorship program. Coordinates residency placements and preceptors and maintains accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director, Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Leadership and Management teams and university program stakeholders, the Coordinator, Pharmacy Practice Residency develops coordinates and implements the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program in cooperation with postsecondary institutions. Develops and maintains key contacts with external education institutions.

    Develops standards, best practices, policies and procedures, resident learning outcomes, evaluation and feedback systems ensuring consistency throughout the Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services.

  • Coordinates the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program; selects applicants, arranges interviews and orientations, develops performance expectations, assigns rotations and preceptors. Ensures effective supervision to enable resident progress and successful program completion.
  • In collaboration with the Coordinator, Student Experiential Learning, develops and implements a lower mainland pharmacy mentorship program; identifies and determines educational requirements, develops and prepares materials, teaches and conducts inservice sessions. Establishes mentor roles and performance expectations and fosters the development of mentor relationships. Provides direction and guidance on related matters.
  • Coordinates training for staff to develop teaching/preceptor skills and optimize the quality of working experience for residents. Ensures adequate staffing and completion of resident evaluations.
  • Coordinates and maintains accreditation program and related processes and procedures; ensures quality of documentation, schedules and arranges audits/interviews.
  • Represents the Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services in the maintenance of provincial and national standards in the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program; attends meetings, provides reports, attends financial matters and distributes information.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities through methods such as reviewing current practices, performing quality assurance audits, identifying actual or potential problems and recommending changes.
  • Participates in staff meetings, committees and other programs as required; identifies opportunities to improve processes and/or procedures to enable safe and efficient operations and refers to Director and/or others.
  • Maintains a variety of records; prepares reports on a variety of activities within the discipline, gathers and records information into approved formats, accounts for variances, sets up and updates computerized files and spreadsheets using wordprocessing and spreadsheet software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
Current registration as a Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.


Completion of an accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program and a post graduate Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited university supplemented by five (5) years' recent, relevant, hospital pharmacy experience including a minimum of two (2) years' experience in adult clinical education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Knowledge of hospital and pharmacy information systems
  • Knowledge of research processes and methodology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to make presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other health practitioners, as well as patients, family members and the public.
  • Ability to plan, implement, organize, problemsolve, and manage projects.
  • Ability to establish curricula and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, teach and facilitate learning within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to effectively lead, and coordinate project teams, pharmacists, technicians, assistants and students.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
