Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.

JOB SUMMARY

Promoting 2SLGBTQQIA+ Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Pharmacy Education (PRIDE-RX) is a Faculty-led initiative with financial support provided by the University of British Columbia (UBC) Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund. This initiative will integrate concepts of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE) into the UBC Entry-to-Practice (E2P) Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program over a three-year period.

The Pharmacy Practice Consultant works collaboratively with the PRIDE-RX team in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm Sci) to advance two-spirit, trans, and queer inclusion in pharmacy skill- and case-based curriculum and build capacity within the Faculty to sustain best practices in 2SLGBTQQIA+ (queer) inclusive teaching. The Consultant is responsible for engaging with UBC faculty members and staff, health care practitioners, and queer community representatives to cultivate a community of practice, make recommendations, and implement practice-informed solutions to advance and promote two-spirit, trans, and queer inclusion in the UBC E2P PharmD program. The Consultant plays a critical role in developing strategies to embed practice considerations pertaining to queer healthcare into the Integration Activities (IA) component of the Medication Management Modules which spans the first three years of the E2P PharmD program. IA sessions are designed to provide students opportunities to apply their classroom knowledge in the context of authentic patient cases and clinical encounters to support their development of clinical reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making skills. The Consultant will review curricular contents then make recommendations to support IA faculty members in promoting values of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The Consultant works collaboratively with Faculty stakeholders to develop a conceptual framework to scaffold concepts of SOGIE into case-based learning sessions, pharmacy skills lab, and tutorials across year levels. The incumbent provides evidence-based and practice-informed consultation and strategic support for Module Leads, Course Coordinators, and the IA team. Through the planning, development, and delivery of training and resources, the Consultant will lead efforts in creating capacity amongst UBC Pharm Sci faculty members and Pharmacist Facilitators to implement queer inclusive teaching practices.

The Consultant should have a comprehensive understanding of EDI in a pharmacy practice context. Connectedness to the queer community is preferred and prioritized.

This is a 20% part-time grant-funded position for one-year term.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The Pharmacy Practice Consultant reports to the PRIDE-RX Co-Leads on project deliverables and provides support on practice issues pertaining to EDI and queer healthcare. The Consultant works closely with the PRIDE-RX team which is comprised of two Co-Leads, a Project Manager and student workers employed as Undergraduate Academic Assistants. The Consultant works collaboratively with UBC Pharm Sci faculty members, staff, and Pharmacist Facilitators to support teaching and learning in IA sessions. The position may require collaborations with the E2P PharmD Program Executive Director and Faculty enabling units. The incumbent may work partially remotely and partially on campus, based on operational needs.

WORK PERFORMED

Develops strategies that strengthen culture and capacity for two-spirit, trans, and queer inclusive teaching and learning practices with the goal of enhancing the experiences of 2SLGBTQQIA+ students.

Conducts needs assessment and reviews curricular materials and teaching practices within the E2P PharmD program to develop capacity, educational leadership, pedagogical strategies, and resources to embed principles of EDI in teaching and learning in the context of IA.

Develops evidence-based policies, procedures, and organizational practices to support the integration of two-spirit, trans, and queer inclusive contents and practices throughout the IA component of the E2P PharmD program across year levels (i.e. case-based learning sessions, practice skills lab, and tutorials).

Advises PRIDE-RX Co-Leads, Module Leads, Course Coordinators, and IA faculty members on pharmacist and queer client needs and provides evidence-based and practice-informed consultation to the PRIDE-RX initiative.

Makes recommendations and prepares comprehensive proposal for E2P PharmD program leadership to establish and implement systems change processes and policies that enable two-spirit, trans, and queer inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environments.

Creates SOGIE training resources for UBC Pharm Sci faculty members, staff, and Pharmacist Facilitators.

Liaises with internal and external stakeholders including UBC faculty members and staff, pharmacists, other health care practitioners, and queer community representatives to enhance and build meaningful relationship with PRIDE-RX team

Anticipates and responds to practice-related questions pertaining to the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.

Participates and serves in a consultative role in the Queer Curriculum Advisory Committee meetings as needed.

Documents scholarly work performed in the form of reports, presentations, etc.

Regularly and actively engages in dialogue about implementation of EDI in pharmacy education.

Works collaboratively with UBC faculty members and staff to achieve the above.

Performs other related duties as needed.
