Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Global Citizenship Education, working virtually and in-person at all campus locations as required. The Global Citizenship & Equity (GCE) Learning Advisor will play an important role in supporting the embedding of Global Citizenship & Equity outcomes, anti-oppression and equity frameworks, intercultural competencies, Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Learning outcomes in student curricular, co-curricular and employee professional development across the College. The incumbent will also provide pedagogical and andragogical counsel and direct facilitation services in addition to supporting program evaluation and review processes.

Working collaboratively with members of other Innovation, Inclusion, Reconciliation & Healing departments, the GCE Learning Advisor will also engage other College teams including Career Services and Cooperative Education, Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation (CFTDI) and the Student Experience Office in service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and Revises GCE and other co-curricular Indigenization, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (IEDI)-related learning opportunities to incorporate current knowledge, maintain leading learning practices and ensure learning coherence across the student and employee learning platforms.
  • Works collaboratively with Career Services, Libraries and SLED on delivery of the Global Perspectives Digital Badge and other IEDI-related co-curricular learning.
  • As required by the SES Division, provides assistance/advice to students involved in developing GCE Skills and IEDI competencies, as well as ensures progress and successful completion of GCE program requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with the SES Division to develop outreach to students in innovative ways to establish relationships and motivate students to engage with GCE concepts which include the new essential skills.
  • Refers students to different College areas that support GCE and portfolio learning (COLT, Libraries, CCSAI, etc.) as well as external resources.
  • As required by the SES Division, provides advising and assistance with writing reflections and connecting GCE to their experiences and future actions.
  • Exercises judgment in discussing social and personal information that may be disclosed by students in advising settings and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Co-creates and supports faculty with the embedding of GCE learning outcomes, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, decolonial, equitable, intercultural and inclusively designed curriculum and pedagogy to enhance student learning specific to their programs of study.
  • Supports faculty in the development of EDI-informed student evaluation and assessment methods through delivery of training sessions, facilitated engagement and individual consultation.
  • Supports the embedding and delivery of GCE learning outcomes in all programs in the College.
  • Conceives and develops EDI-related synchronous and asynchronous leadership curriculum for faculty, staff and administrators to be delivered through the Centennial Talent Academy (CTA).
  • Leads group facilitation and consultation as part of IEDI leadership-related program delivery in alignment with the CTA and other educational platforms for employees.
  • Collaborates, consults and liaises with college faculty, staff and administrators as a resource on issues related to portfolio and IEDI-related leadership learning.
  • Develops IEDI-related resource materials as needed to support students, staff, administrators and faculty.
  • Collaborates with teams across the College including SLED, Career Services and Cooperative Education, Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation (CFTDI) and the Student Experience Office to streamline activities and ensure learning outcome coherence across Divisions.
  • Collaboratively leads continuous review of GCE Integration within student Academic Division learning outcomes.
  • Supports the Associate Vice-President, IIRH towards portfolio engagement with Academic Division
  • Support the College Community with the integration of accessibility practices and Universal Design/Inclusive Design Frameworks
  • Comprehensive Program Quality Review and Annual Program Quality Review processes.
  • Supports the Manager, Research and Strategic Initiatives in GCE departmental evaluation and review processes including the collection, analysis and reporting of data.
  • Develops GCE marketing and communication materials for the College and wider community (i.e. posters, website, handbooks etc.) in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications department.
  • Attends appropriate College events (orientation, service fairs, transitional activities, open houses, etc.)
  • Works in collaboration with the GCE team to support the development of community partnerships and collaborations that can inform/advance global citizenship education for staff/students.
  • Collaborates with Curriculum Consultants and Faculty Developers to provide extra-curricular GCE learning opportunities and embed GCE into professional development and curriculum review.
  • Engages in continuous personal and professional self-development to keep abreast of leading research, pedagogical and andragogical practices and support knowledge mobilization.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Completion of a four (4) year degree (or equivalent), from a recognized post-secondary institution in education/adult education, humanities/social sciences, human services, business ethics, political economy, or other related discipline. Post-graduate level studies, an asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' practical experience in advising, counselling, or client service and support.
  • Demonstrated experience related to teaching and learning approaches to global citizenship, equity, anti-oppression, social justice, power, privilege, etc.
  • A specialized focus/interest in one or more of the following; global citizenship, equity, anti-oppression, intercultural learning, internationalization, social justice, public policy, community development, social and cultural change, and/or ethics
  • Demonstrated understanding and analysis of issues related to global citizenship, equity, inclusion, power and privilege
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
  • Core understanding of equity issues across diverse populations and ability to work with marginalized communities
  • Familiarity with Universal Design/Inclusive Design Frameworks preferrable
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
  • Proven planning and organizational skills, effective interpersonal skills for creating positive relationships
  • Strong written, verbal and communication skills as well as proficiency in digital literacy and computer applications
