Officer Operating Practices

Job Summary

The Officer, Operating Practices is responsible for maintaining and updating Divisional Instructions for their assigned territory. The role creates and maintains relationships with Front Line Supervisors to provide rule interpretations as required.

Main Responsibilities

Operating Practices Subject Matter Expert (SME)

·Compose Operating Bulletins and Notices

·Maintain and revise operating manual documents

·Participate in investigations and disciplinary activities involving rules qualifying employees' system-wide

·Compose and provide input for Divisional Timetables, System Special Instructions and Operating Rules

·Provide rules and operating instruction interpretations for Front Line Supervisors

Network Safety Audits and Efficiency Testing

·Participate in Integrated Field Audits and Rail Traffic Control (RTC) Centre Audits

·Carry out follow-ups on audits

·Assist with data input

·Perform various field audits as required by System Safety

Operating Practices Training

·Participate in classroom and field rules training for Company Officers and Campus

Instructors

·Involved with training for Company Officers for Safety Observation

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires occasional travel (30%) for meetings and audits.

Requirements

Experience

Operating Practices

·Between 3 to 5 years of experience working with Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR)

Education/Certification/Designation

·High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

·One of the following Certifications: RTC Qualification, Locomotive Engineer certification, Conductor certification, or Engineering Foreman certification.

·Bachelor's Degree*

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

·Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)

·SME in the RTC manual*
