We are currently looking for
Assistant Manager, Arctic Operations responsible for managing long term contracts for 1-3 of our icebreaking bulk carriers and assisting with the port operations of several mines in the arctic.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING | THE ROLE

Key responsibilities:

  • Familiarization with contracts for three icebreakers.
  • Voyage and annual planning for the icebreakers.
  • Provide timely and detailed instructions to the masters of his/her fleet.
  • Monitor the issuance and onforwarding of all cargo documents.
  • Point of contact for mine, crew, and ship management company.
  • Spend several days on board the vessels each month, mainly in Quebec City.
  • Prepare voyage costs, approve payments, send invoices to miscellaneous parties.
  • Oversee all finances for icebreaking fleet.
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including postvoyage analysis (financial and statistical), maintaining the vessels schedule in IMOS, monitoring bunker consumption.
  • Monitor proactively all participants and initiate preemptive or corrective action whenever required.
  • Ensure proper implementation and execution of all policies and procedures.
  • Attend weekly icebreaker meetings & presenting to all attendees a concise summary of any concerning issues pertaining to your vessels.
  • Hire and organize schedule for ice navigators.
  • Prepare and issue bills of lading.
  • Attend daily (virtual) meetings for port operations (July-November)
  • Maintain and update sailing manuals.
  • Schedule and coordinate schedules of Fednav site team in the arctic.
  • Oversee the daily schedule of vessels.
  • Assist Head of Operations, Arctic in daily tasks.
  • On call 24/7.

WHAT YOU BRING | THE PERSON

  • An undergraduate degree in Administration or any other relevant discipline.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Nautical Sciences, a definite asset.
  • A minimum of three to five years' experience as a fleet operator.
  • Three to five years of previous seagoing experience, a definite asset.
  • Strong knowledge of voyage planning and management.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Working knowledge of voyage log, and electronic voyage system (IMOS).
  • Ability to control costs.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, French is an asset.

Directeur/trice adjoint/e,
Opérations arctiques qui sera responsable de la gestion des contrats à long terme pour 1 à 3 de nos vraquiers brise-glace et de l'assistance aux opérations portuaires de plusieurs mines dans l'Arctique.


L'APPORT | LE RÔLE

Principales responsabilités:

  • Familiarisation avec les contrats de trois briseglaces.
  • Planification des voyages et de l'année pour les briseglaces.
  • Fournir en temps utile des instructions détaillées aux capitaines de sa flotte.
  • Contrôler l'émission et la transmission de tous les documents relatifs à la cargaison.
  • Point de contact pour la mine, l'équipage et la société de gestion du navire.
  • Passer plusieurs jours à bord des navires chaque mois, principalement à Québec.
  • Préparer les coûts du voyage, approuver les paiements, envoyer les factures à diverses parties.
  • Superviser toutes les finances de la flotte de briseglaces.
  • Effectuer diverses tâches administratives, y compris l'analyse postvoyage (financière et statistique), la mise à jour de l'horaire des navires dans IMOS, le suivi de la consommation de carburant.
  • Surveiller de manière proactive tous les participants et prendre des mesures préventives ou correctives chaque fois que cela est nécessaire.
  • Assurer la mise en œuvre et l'exécution correctes de toutes les politiques et procédures.
