We are looking to hire a Bilingual (French/English) Disability Claim Manager to join Empire Life's Group Operations team. The Claim Manager applies disability management best practices to effectively manage the payment, expenses and risk associated with weekly indemnity and long-term disability claims within approved authority limits. Successful applicants will report to the Manager, Life and Disability Claim Management.

What will you do?

Investigate, evaluate and determine eligibility for initial and ongoing payment claims based on medical information, job requirements, non-medical factors, contract terms and department/industry protocols within established service standards Manage active claims duration by utilizing best practices Interview claimants and employers through telephone interviews Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all communication with customers Formulate and implement a detailed case management plan on each file with a focus on a timely, sustainable and safe return to work; interact with and appropriately challenge treating physicians and employers; make referrals for independent medical assessments and to alternate insurance organizations (federal, provincial and private insurers) Collaborate with in-house return-to-work facilitators to design and monitor return-to-work programs Collaborate with team members to exchange ideas, gather information and offer solutions on claims Ensure proactive communication with our customers regarding claim status and developments based on department standards Be accountable for positive file resolution and appropriate outcomes

What makes you a good fit?

The ability to read write and speak fluently in both French and English 3+ years of work experience in disability claim management Knowledge of medical terminology and Disability Management best practices/protocols Knowledge of relevant provincial employment legislation and legal requirements Strong experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet and database software Completion of a university degree in anatomy, biology, kinesiology, life sciences or psychology an asset Well-developed verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills Well-developed customer relations skills Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks Ability to research, analyze, evaluate, negotiate, make decisions and resolve problems Ability to apply policy terms and adjudication guidelines LOMA 280, 290, HIAA, CEBS - GBA are assets Have the ability to travel to an Empire Life location, if required

Enquêter, évaluer et déterminer l'admissibilité aux demandes de paiement initiales et continues en fonction des informations médicales, des exigences du poste, des facteurs non médicaux, des conditions du contrat et des protocoles du département/de l'industrie dans le cadre des normes de service établies Gérez la durée des réclamations actives en utilisant les meilleures pratiques Interviewer les demandeurs et les employeurs par le biais d'entretiens téléphoniques Assurer une documentation précise et opportune de toutes les communications avec les clients Formuler et mettre en œuvre un plan de gestion de cas détaillé pour chaque dossier en mettant l'accent sur un retour au travail rapide, durable et sécuritaire ; interagir avec les médecins traitants et les employeurs et les remettre en question de manière appropriée ; orienter les patients vers des évaluations médicales indépendantes et vers d'autres organismes d'assurance (assureurs fédéraux, provinciaux et privés) Collaborer avec les facilitateurs internes du retour au travail pour concevoir et suivre les programmes de retour au travail Collaborer avec les membres de l'équipe pour échanger des idées, recueillir des informations et proposer des solutions aux réclamations Assurer une communication proactive avec nos clients concernant l'état et l'évolution des réclamations en fonction des normes du service Être responsable de la résolution positive des dossiers et des résultats appropriés
