The Office of the Assembly seeks a non-partisan Clerk of Procedural Services who, as Director of our Procedural Services Branch, in Toronto, ON, will play a significant role guiding the activities of the Branch, as well as providing the Speaker and Members non-partisan, confidential advice on parliamentary procedure and practice at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.


What You'll Do:

You'll act with integrity to:

  • Provide procedural advice to the Presiding Officers and Members of the House, using the utmost sensitivity, tact and good judgement
  • Oversee the provision of procedural and administrative support to all Standing and Select Committees, the production of House Documents, and the research and development of materials relating to parliamentary procedure and practice

You'll support our collaboration as you:

  • Serve as a Table Officer, performing duties such as the preparation of rulings, motions, and the daily House Documents, as well as tracking the progress of House business
  • Consult with House Leaders and their staff on matters related to the business of the House and its Committees, and advise Members on the drafting of resolutions
  • Direct programs and staff of the Branch, including, but not limited to, planning, budgeting, allocating resources, monitoring performance, controlling costs, and drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Perform human resource related functions for the Branch in the areas of staffing, training and development, attendance, performance management, discipline, and termination
  • Respond to inquiries from various sources regarding the business of the House and Committees

How You Qualify:

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Completion of a university degree or equivalent, coupled with 3 to 5 years of management experience
  • Indepth knowledge and comprehension of parliamentary and administrative procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, budgeting, and allocating resources
  • Ability to adapt to change, and identify and resolve problems in complex situations
  • Superior interpersonal skills to create a positive environment and establish cohesive relationships with stakeholders
  • Experience developing work performance goals and managing performance through review, coaching and counselling
  • Proficiency in Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and Zoom
