Position Summary


Under the direction and supervision of the Communications Manager, the Administrative Coordinator, is responsible for developing communications content delivered through the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

The Administrative Coordinator will also be responsible for a wide range of comprehensive coordination, research, and administrative support duties by providing the following key activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare memos, executive letters, press releases, news releases, reports, and will be responsible for assisting the communications team with other writing and communications duties as assigned.
  • Prepare briefing notes, summary reports and other documentation, as required for an AMC Youth Council and Grand Chief's Office.
  • Research effective communication techniques to reach the First Nations on issues that may have impact in their lives.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team, Grand Chief's Office, and other Secretariat departments to gather and analyze data on political matters, contributing to informed decisionmaking and management.
  • Coordinate and cofacilitate meetings, gatherings, focus groups,, that are assigned by the Communications Manager.

  • Monitor the project work plans, including budget and expenses and inform
  • Writing/editing press releases in journalistic and succinct voice to ensure the AMC communication strategy is consistent and reflects the organization's strategic vision.
  • Work with Communications Team and the Grand Chiefs office on reviving an AMC youth council, assessing past challenges, and strategizing to reintroduce engaging activities and initiatives.
  • Recruit and engage young community members, fostering their leadership skills while coordinating meetings, events, and projects that amplify their voices and impact.
  • Assist in media scans for current First Nations related news and AMC coverage.
  • Respond to external and internal inquiries in an expedient, professional, and tactful
  • Help Communications Team with documenting events, milestones, and community profiles by attending events to write stories and document events for our social media and website.
  • Generate endofday reports and manage expense/invoicing files.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Certification from a recognized university, college, or technical institute in communications or related field, or a combination of two years related work experience.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and meet
  • Strong administrative, editing, organizational skills, and research abilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality, possess excellent timemanagement skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and office equipment
  • Knowledge of First Nation culture, history, and
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a cooperative approach to working within interdisciplinary team's professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Adhere to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention professional ethics.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check, and a Clear Child Abuse Checks.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Awareness of communication systems, networks, and protocol among First Nations
communities and organizations.

  • Experience with WordPress.
  • Fluency in a Manitoba First Nations language is considered an asset.
