Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, provide student services for the faculty of law.

Provide guidance to students in English and French on policies and procedures as they relate to University and Faculty of Law (program options, course requirements, registration, IUT transfer credit, examinations, etc.).

Manage the functions that are associated with first year and second year students, program requirements, orientation, law peer tutor program, student legal clinics, student clerkships, exchange programs, course scheduling, examinations, registration, transfer credits, and grade submission.


Primary Responsibilities:


Provide academic student advising to students (First year, Second year, Advance Standing, and Transfer students) and assess academic needs in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Inform students on academic issues such as: course registration deadlines,

registration procedures, non-law and outside law credits, course selection,

Advise students regarding Major and Minor programs (degree audits).


Assist other Student Advisor (for upper year students) with the graduation approval (running degree audits to ensure that all students who applied for graduation is fit to graduate).

Advise students in regards to academic considerations such as extensions and deferred examinations.

Partner with support units such as Office for Students with Disabilities, Wellness Hub and financial aid in order to develop a support plan for students to enable success.

Administer the First Year Academic Success Series involving University and faculty service units, guest speakers and upper year students.


Assist with the 1st year Orientation, curriculum and the coordination of Integration Week (Scheduling, Indigenous Welcome Ceremony, Civil Codes (with LSA), SAO sponsored lunch, orientation survey etc.)



Coordinate the orientation & registration process for 1st year students (ex. assigning students to Small Groups).


Coordinate the schedule and creation of the Integration Workshop - Small Groups, Advocacy Tutorial Groups and Legal Ethics Small Groups with the assistance of Senior Admin and Student Affairs Coordinator.

Administer the Law Peer Tutor and Advising program for full academic year.

Coordinate with 1L Facilitator in providing the MOE of all 1L courses. Send grading memo regarding 1L midterm grades and course averages to all 1L Instructors.

Coordinate breakfast/lunch meetings with Dean and Associate Dean with 1L students and/or upper year students.

Coordinate Law Summer Global League School + transcript and transfer credits. Assist McGill Abroad with faculty bilateral agreements with Exchange Partners and update SAO website accordingly.

Attend different Exchange committees (McGill International Education Network, International Student Mobility Advisory Group, etc.)

Present info session (degree planning) with CDO to 1L-2L students. Assist in updating shared schedule with CDO.
