Tanzu Application Service (TAS) is looking for a Product Line Manager to work on an agile, fast-paced, startup-like team where you will help shape product roadmap and drive customer outcomes.

We are looking for an exceptional product manager who can connect with our end-users, platform engineers and developers, to learn about their everyday challenges.


What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?:

You will get to define strategy for a large established product within the VMware Tanzu portfolio, and play a pivotal role in helping execute the outcomes with our engineering teams.

You will get to communicate our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understand our customers deeply, and collaborate with marketing and sales to execute our Go-to-Market strategy.

You will work closely with other VMware product teams to integrate key technologies to address those operations team's needs; what can we do to make our products simple, easy to use, and even more valuable?

Success in the Role:
What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?:

  • Understanding the product: Gain a deep understanding of VMware's Tanzu Application Service, its features, functionalities, and how it fits into the larger ecosystem of VMware's offerings.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to ensure a smooth product development and release process.
  • Product strategy and roadmap: Contribute to the development and refinement of the product strategy and roadmap, aligning it with the company's overall vision and customer needs. Identify areas for improvement and work towards enhancing the product's competitiveness in the market.
  • Market research and analysis: Conduct thorough market research to stay updated on industry trends, competitor offerings, and customer demands. Utilize this information to inform product decisions and identify opportunities for growth and differentiation.
  • Product launches and releases: Collaborate with the product marketing team to plan and execute successful product launches and releases. Ensure effective communication, training, and documentation to support internal teams and customers during the adoption process.
  • Customer satisfaction and feedback: Actively engage with customers, gather feedback, and analyze usage data to understand their needs, pain points, and satisfaction levels. Use these insights to drive product improvements and prioritize features and enhancements.
  • Crossteam coordination: Facilitate effective communication and coordination between different teams involved in product development, such as engineering, and design, to ensure timely delivery of highquality products.
  • Performance measurement and metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the success of the product. Regularly analyze and report on these metrics to measure progress and identify areas for optimization.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?:

You will be assigned to a domain within VMware's Tanzu Application Service and be expected to triage incoming requests, as well as be proactive in establishing its roadmap.

You'll work closely with design, engineering, and technical leads to speak with customers and identify gaps which would help drive customer satisfaction.


You'll need agile and lean methodology knowledge to execute the roadmap in an iterative manner, with consistent customer validation to reduce risk.

You'll need to take complex situations and communicate them simply and effectively to drive influence in shipping product features frequently.


You'll also get to work on go-to-market strategies with our marketing counterparts, and have a say in the overall direction of VMware's Tanzu Application Service strategy and roadmap.

You'll help align TAS well with the rest of the Tanzu portfolio, including how it interoperates with the Kubernetes products to drive good outcomes for the overall portfolio.

The hiring manager for this role is Elizabeth Morris, Group Product Line Manager leading the Tanzu Application Service product team.

Liz joined VMware via the Pivotal acquisition, and has been working on Tanzu Application Service since 2018.

The team meets regularly to share ideas and iterate on our process; this includes weekly team syncs to learn new topics or share big wins, retrospective meetings, games hour, and standup.
