Please note that effective February 12, 2023 mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations are no longer required as per the Niagara Region's amended COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.

As a result, you will not be required to submit verification of your vaccination status before starting employment with the Niagara Region.

However, the Niagara Region continues to reserve the right to reintroduce vaccination requirements in the future if necessary to respond to changing public health advice and\or government direction.

The Niagara Region continues to strongly encourage everyone to remain up-to-date with vaccinations.

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform and assist in maintenance and labour work on equipment, buildings and grounds. Operate Regional truck, tractor, hand/power tools and lawn equipment. Assist operations staff in disinfecting and preparing Water Wagon for event-use. Deliver, set up and remove Water Wagon at various events across Niagara region. Liaise with the W-WW Engagement and Education team. Maintain Water Wagon supply inventory including, recyclable cups, paper towels, Sani-Cloths, etc.

Deliver supply of promotional water bottles to each event, alongside the Water Wagon based on 10 per cent of expected event attendance.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of valid OperatorinTraining Water certificates accredited through the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO)
    or are willing to obtain certificates via written examination is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience driving large trucks, tractors, pulling a trailer or other heavy equipment.
  • Grounds and building maintenance experience.
  • Experience with hand/power tools and lawn equipment.
  • Janitorial experience would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Book 7 and Hours of Service Regulations, W.H.M.I.S. legislation and other relevant construction related legislation.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to understand and follow detailed procedures, instructions and take direction.
  • Ability to accurately complete various logs, documents, inspection forms and other administrative information.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to interact with leaders, coworkers and the public.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class license for the class of the vehicle operated (Class G)

Please note:
Class AZ/DZ driver's licence is preferred.

  • Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Will be required to work weekdays, weekends, late evenings and early morning shifts. Shifts will vary in length of time (3 to 8 hours).
  • Must be available to work up to 40 hours/week.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
