The Research Grant Assistant will support the continued growth of applied research activities at the College's research-based Centres of Innovation.
The Research Grant Assistant (RGA) will report to the Director of Research Operations at the Office of Research Services (ORS).
They will work directly with principal investigators and project managers to provide support in the execution of grant-funded research projects.
The incumbent will be supporting preparation and routing of research collaboration agreements and project plans, procurement activities, record keeping, tracking, and compliance activities.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare research collaboration agreements and research proposals
- Communicate with industry and community partners to gather and maintain project management records as well as financial data for individual projects
- Develop procedures and documents related to maintaining and tracking outcomes of research initiatives
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual outcome performance reports to funding agencies and industry partners
- Assist with the organization of knowledge dissemination activities
- Maintain accurate electronic records related to all research project administration activities
- Guide and facilitate project leads through staffing requirements for research projects, including preparing job postings, creating contracts, and document collection
- Purchase materials and equipment in consultation with ORS, Procurement, vendors, and other internal college departments while ensuring all expenses comply with funding agency guidelines
- Monitor and maintain a tracking system for budgeted and actual expenses to ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines
- Guides and advise new researchers and principal investigators through the execution, reporting, and closing phase of an applied research project
- Ensure all complex scenarios are logged and documented following the Tri-Agency Guideline on Financial Administration
- Develop guides and information documents to facilitate the communication and adoption of applied research processes by researchers and project manager
- Assist in process of performing enduser and functionality testing of SharePoint sites, websites and software tools before the Go-Live Date as required
Qualifications:
- Twoyear Diploma in Office Administration, Business, Communication, General Arts and Science, Humanities, Social Science, or related fields of study
- Two years of relevant office experience providing administrative support including experience supporting and guiding a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
- Research Administration Certification is considered an asset
- Experience in research, financial or human resource administration in a college, university, or similar environment is an asset
- Excellent organizational skills to manage workload and deadlines
- Bookkeeping and/or accounting skills/experience would be valuable to this position
- Excellent communication skills to communicate tactfully, courteously and effectively to internal and external stakeholders
- Problem solving ability and evaluation skills are required to understand and respond efficiently and appropriately to questions
- Proven ability to work under pressure and on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience demonstrating initiative and working independently
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, diplomacy and tact
