Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking two (2) Concentrator Operations Superintendents to join our Operations Department in Voisey's Bay, NL.

This permanent position is based at the Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in/fly-out operation, working on a 1 week on, 1 week off rotation.

As the Superintendent of Concentrator Operations, you are responsible for the safe operation of the Concentrator and the Paste Plant. You will use your skills and experience to create cross functional collaboration with the mine and mill teams, to achieve our business goals.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Verify/evaluate control effectiveness using CRM and other tools
  • Work with Supervisors, Operators, and Staff to ensure operations occur safely and in an environmentally sustainable way.
  • Manage a department of Concentrator Operations in cooperation with maintenance, and technical services, develop and execute annual plans, mitigate impact of plant upsets;
  • Meet unit cost and capital expenditure budget, lead the preparation of the annual budget and five-year plan;
  • Ensure data collection systems are in place and effective, lead problem solving initiatives through adaptive thinking to reduce process variability;
  • Lead a unionized and non-unionized workforce, talent pool development and planning to meet organizational requirements over the long term, including personal development;
  • Business Planning for 1 to 3 year horizon, current mineral resource stewardship, capital planning, maximize revenue of existing asset;
  • Provide effective care and utilization of assets, while increasing reliability;
  • Implement new management systems; Act as a champion of the implementation and execution of the Vale Production System (VPS) program within Concentrator Operations.

About You

Education

  • Post -Secondary completion in a related field of study.

Experience

  • A minimum of 11 years' experience in a leadership role, preferably in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in front to end concentrator operations is required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

  • High sense of safety and risk management.
  • Ability to effectively balance crews to ensure coverage and required skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of working in a unionized environment, including training progression.
  • Ability to develop people using effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings.
