Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporations Calgary office is recruiting for an Advisor, Safety to join the team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Safety Reporting and Programs, part of Pembina's Safety Service Unit.

The Advisor, Safety is responsible for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of standards, processes and training for Pembina's Safety Program, which is a component of Pembina's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS). This role requires experience in safety management systems, including interpretation of regulatory requirements, and will collaborate with the wider Pembina Safety and Operations Teams.

The Safety Service Unit is dedicated to delivering quality products and services by leading the enterprise-wide occupational health and safety, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs, insurance program and Operational Excellence Management System governance.

The Safety team ensures compliance with all company, federal and local government health, safety, security and emergency management regulations and requirements ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and communities.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
  • Review and revise existing standards within the Safety Program or lead in the development of new standards;
  • Carry out review activities throughout the life cycle of program standards using a document control system;
  • Technical SME responsible to understand and interpret regulatory requirements that impact the various standards that support the Safety Program;
  • Update existing training or assist in the creation of new training content and tools in support of the Safety Program, as applicable;
  • Maintain the Safety Program Legal Registry and Hazard and Risk Registry;
  • Research and identify best practices to enhance and improve the Safety Program;
  • Lead and support select continuous improvement projects or initiatives in support of the Safety Program or Pembina's safety culture;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Business and Service Unit staff; including collaboration with Operations and Project Safety Teams to develop standards in accordance with business needs, ensuring companywide consistency and local/site-specific requirements;
  • Participate in Pembina's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) working group;
  • Identify opportunities from safety incident data and external incident learnings, to relay findings and trends through well-written safety communications (Learning from Incidents, Safety Bulletins, Safety Alerts, etc.);
  • Manage the SDS Binders system;
  • Additional duties and support as required;
  • Support Pembina's safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the "Life Saving Rules". To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit ; and

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A diploma or degree, or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a Safety department within a midstream company or an oil and gas producer;
  • Experience with safety management system development, implementation and maintenance; including creating safety communications and training.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of both Canadian and American occupational health and safety regulations and standards;
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, and can translate technical information into outputs that are understandable to all audiences;
  • Ability to think strategically, recognize and act on opportunities to be proactive and to propose innovative solutions;
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively;
  • Team player who engages and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Flexible, adaptable, learns quickly and demonstrates self-awareness;
  • Excellent knowledge and application in Microsoft suite of products and demonstrated aptitude for working with other business-related software applications.

Certifications:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certification (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician Certification (CRST) is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License; and
  • Willingness to travel to various field locations on an ad hoc basis.
