Position Type: Temporary
Start Date: 20 July 2024
Hours: 7 hours per day
Salary: $36.94/hour + 20% in lieu of benefits
(14% in lieu if contributing to a municipal pension)

Settlement Workers in Schools
The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program helps newly arrived families integrate into the community by providing information, referrals, and support.
In this role you will:
- Provide systematic settlement needs assessments and action planning for newcomer families
- Inform and orient students and families about settlement-related issues
- Provide referrals to community services/agencies and conduct outreach activities
- Develop culturally appropriate information and material
- Assist school staff with outreach to hard-to-reach families
- Organize settlement-related events and workshops
- Encourage parent participation in education & community
- Link newcomer families to resources and services in school and the community
- Advocate for the educational needs of newcomer children
- Maintain client information confidentiality and submit required statistical information
- Perform other work within the job band as assigned
Qualifications:
- Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of post-secondary education/diploma in relevant areas
- Minimum 2 years related experience, preferably in a community agency
- Knowledge of immigration, refugee issues, government policies, and community resources
- Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with diverse individuals
- Ability to work independently and in a team, familiarity with family needs assessments
- Fluency in Korean required
Some activities may require working irregular hours and/or weekends.

Itinerant Assignment:
A School & Student Support worker is hired to work throughout the Vancouver School District. Employee Services may transfer staff within the system when necessary.
