Contract Financial Controller
CityStudio Society seeks an experienced Financial Controller to provide financial management for the organisation on a Contractor basis.

CityStudio Society is a registered educational charity led by a board of governance.

We are an innovation hub with the mission to bring together city staff with post-secondary students and faculty to co-create experimental projects that make cities more sustainable, liveable, inclusive and joyful.

Our main purpose is to advance education by coordinating and facilitating collaboration between municipal governments and post-secondary academic institutions.

We provide practical learning experiences that help students obtain job skills while addressing key urban challenges and generating a sense of connection to the city.

Locally, the Vancouver Program partners with the City of Vancouver and six post-secondary institutions.

Globally, we licence the CityStudio model to cities in Canada and around the world. Since 2011, 703 city staff in 14 cities have worked on 2700 projects with over 14,000 students. These students have contributed more than 400,000 hours to their cities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Postsecondary education; preferably in business or finance or equivalent experience
  • Accounting or financial designation preferred
  • Minimum 3 years financial controller experience
  • Prefer experience in nonprofit or charitable sectors
  • Financial management, including budgeting, projections, reporting and auditing, payroll, A/R, A/P, account reconciliation
  • Contract management
  • Experience working with a Board of Governance preferred
  • Knowledge of Federal & Provincial legislation applicable to nonprofit and charitable organisations
  • Preparation of an Annual Report
  • Knowledge of employment standards, human rights, occupational health & safety
  • Supervisory experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:

CityStudio's Financial Controller contractor is responsible for the management and control of CityStudio Societal financial oversight and obligations:

  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to the Executive Director and Board of Governance
  • Develop, implement, or maintain financial policies, systems, and procedures
  • Manage the preparation of financial statements, summaries, annual budget and other costbenefit analyses and financial management reports
  • Manage the financial planning and financial controls, and analyse and correct estimates
  • Manage reconciliation of bank and credit card statements
  • Manage payroll and tax remittances
  • Ensure bookkeeping records are accurate and up to date
  • Manage and track expenses according to financial policies
  • Manage and control payables and receivables
  • Manage the year end audit, review and annual report
  • Required to attend five board meetings per year; four quarterly meetings (two hours each) and one Annual General Meeting (one hour), to present financial reports and budget

Business Development, Fundraising and Grants

  • Ensure continuous funding from partners and continuation of contribution agreements
  • Plan and lead fundraising activities, and research funding sources

Grant Administration

  • Manage and monitor external grants and funding, including timelines, deadlines, and reporting requirements, in coordination with the Executive Director
  • Manage financial reports for funding organisations

POSITION:
This is a Contractor position for up to 16 hours per week. Remote working conditions are negotiable.

COMPENSATION RANGE:
$2,167 - $2,500 PER MONTH, INCLUSIVE of GST
