The Maintenance Worker must ensure that the entire building is in safe and good working order at all times. This includes a combination of preventative maintenance tasks, daily repair requisitions, and supporting outside contractors when on site.

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the incumbent monitors & maintains hotel's facilities and equipment to preserve brand image, and maximize life of facilities and equipment and optimize safety and comfort of guests, while maintaining company and legislative standards.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the property; working day, evening shifts and/or weekends.
  • Implement maintenance activities schedules to cover all tasks to be completed on a regular basis, plan for responding to emergency situations.
  • General painting, wall repairs, general maintenance of building and grounds
  • Responds to guest calls when on duty.
  • Supports the service personnel in any way possible to enhance guest services.
  • Responds to Front desk calls, assisting in checking rooms, luggage delivery and guest special request.
  • Reports any equipment malfunction, emergency situations or suspicious persons to the Manager.
  • Anticipates, identifies and corrects system breakdowns to achieve guest satisfaction.
  • Communicates with Maintenance Manager and coworkers regarding product / service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems, etc.
  • Is fully prepared for fire alarm procedures and other safety requirements.
  • Is familiar with the location of how to control the supply of water, electricity and gas in an emergency situation.
  • Refurbishes furniture and fixtures with in the hotel such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows and counters. Paints and finishes furniture and fixtures, if needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance on air handling units
  • Able to trouble shoot, follow and maintain a preventative maintenance program.
  • Reports work completed daily to supervisor.
  • Removes snow/icesurrounding hotel.
  • Maintains pool facilities in clean and orderly condition.
  • Some janitorial work inside/outside of the building, keeping the hotel's appearance at its best.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel's Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
  • Duties associated with Maintenance position including but not limited to the above
  • Must be able to work days, weekends, night, and holiday shifts

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Knowledge and experience with HVAC systems, plumbing and commercial electrical systems
  • Experience as a hotel Maintenance Person.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • A "handson individual" knowledgeable in general maintenance, drywall, grounds maintenance, etc.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of management in a professional manner.
  • Able to manage multiple projects at a time

Mental Effort

  • Ability to take direction from different management staff
  • Requires focus with consistent interruption
  • Ability to deal with guests in a courteous and pleasant manner

Physical Effort

  • Some heavy lifting required
  • Long periods of standing and kneeling required
  • Climbing ladders, and overhead lifting and reaching

Type of Supervision Required

  • Reports to the hotel General Manager. Works under general instructions to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
