Job Number:49387**This position as a Roadway Maintenance Supervisor will work as the front line leader for the MNM/IFO Contracts functional team, ensuring quality control and assurance for contractors responsible for execution of large areas of maintenance and operational programs by supervising multiple Roadway Maintenance Inspector I's and II's in the field.

As the RMS, you will supervise inspectors for a wide range of contracted work and will be responsible for the inspection of contractors completing work for, but not limited to, the following:
snow and ice control, snow removal, street cleaning, concrete sidewalk elevation, microsurfacing and curb ramp construction.

You will monitor contractors to ensure adherence to the various specifications for each individual contract and that work goals and priorities are met through consistent and documented inspection processes.

  • Supervision of staff including recruitment efforts, performance management, coaching and training, and safety
  • Ensure that all program plans are being executed as per each specific work plan
  • Schedule labour, equipment, and materials daily
  • Respond to escalations in a polite and professional manner, ensuring fair and responsible outcomes
  • Ensure appropriate and effective delivery of work, taking into consideration time, quality, and cost/budget
  • Oversee the training, scheduling, and deployment of personnel to accomplish the work in compliance with OH&S Alberta and City Standards Operations procedures
  • Arrange preconstruction meetings for all executed contracts
  • Be the main point of contact for issues that arise related to all contracts administered by the team
  • Conduct field inspections for quality assurance / quality control, and ensuring the work conforms to the environmental constraints
  • Effectively, professionally, and accurately communicate information and needs to internal stakeholders such as, District ML2, district leaders, the Training Department, Fleet, equipment vendors, IT, other internal department leads, as well as external stakeholders, such as citizens of Edmonton with respect to work being completed or inquiries
  • Implement robust and proactive plans to address inquiries and requests, working closely with the Inspector to help address 311 inquires, Council or Mayor's office inquiries, and interdepartmental requests
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Promote a safe and inclusive work culture
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 1
  • Completion of Post Secondary Courses/Education considered an asset
  • 4 years years of progressively responsible experience in overseeing the projects related to roads maintenance, construction and operations, Snow and Ice Control, of which 2 years of experience will be in a Roadway Maintenance Supervisor capacity
  • Valid Class 3 Alberta Driver's License with airbrake endorsement, eligible to obtain a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of the position
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with implementing and managing safety across multiple geographic locations
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates
  • Completion of the City of Edmonton Hiring Manager Certification, Making the Transition to Supervisor, Aspiring Leaders & Supervisor 101 training may be required upon commencement into the position
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience in Inspecting completion of contracted work related to snow removal, concrete sidewalk elevation, microsurfacing and curb ramp construction
  • Knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures and SOP's
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance operations
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing safety practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing change
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, as well as analytical and problem solving skills
  • Exemplary customer service skills
  • Ability to monitor work plans for timeliness, quantity, quality, productivity, unit costing and accomplishments
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise with Google Applications Suite, Posse, SLIM and SAP
  • Ability to work and make decisions in an independent manner
