Our Client, Thyssen Mining is searching for an HR Manager to join their team. Thyssen Mining is a full-service underground mining company with offices in Canada and the US. Our HR team is currently comprised of 5 members, managing over 600 nonunionized employees with anticipated growth.

Who you are:

You are a skilled HR Professional with experience managing a full-service HR department for at least the past 2 years, experienced in working with staff both in the office and in the field.

You have experience in both Canadian and US legislation pertaining to the administration of payroll, benefits and WCB.

You are someone that is described as approachable and warm, but you are comfortable being firm and navigating tough conversations as needed.

You value a collaborative approach to success and are happy to jump in to support where you are needed. You can see where improvements are possible and are confident guiding your team to implement changes as needed. You have a learner's mindset and are always looking to develop your skills and knowledge.

You are comfortable visiting employees both in office and onsite, at mining locations, throughout Canada and the US approximately 6 times per year.

This position is available for remote work throughout Canada, however regular travel to the Regina head office will be required for effective training/onboarding/team management and would increase the amount of annual travel required.


Duties will include:

Ø Ensuring compliance with the Company's policies and procedures, by managing processes and providing direction to supervisors and managers for issues affecting employees.Ø Develop, communicate, and maintain these policies and procedures for the Company.

Ensure management and employees are aware of amendments to policies as required.

Ø Supervise the Payroll Department, ensuring that the Company is compliant with local legislative rules, employees are paid accurately and timely, and employee data is properly and effectively managed.

Ø Manage benefit plans, such as dental, medical, Group RSP and 401(k) plans. Regularly meet with third party providers of these plans and make recommendations for changes to plans as appropriate. Ensure Workers Compensation Coverage is in place in all jurisdictions where the Company has employees. Ø Communicate with all levels of management with respect to labor relations issues. Liaise with legal counsel as appropriate.Ø Coordinate the recruitment process and provide guidance to onboarding teams where necessary.

Provide in person onboarding sessions for new sites as required.Ø Assist sites with questions on industrial relations and benefits according to local legislation requirements.Ø Manage company immigration issues with assistance from outside resources as required.


Education/Skill Requirements:

Ø Post-secondary education with a focus in Human Resources, Business or Organizational Psychology.Ø CPHR designation is preferred but experience in lieu will be accepted.Ø Minimum 2 years in management role of a full cycle HR department.Ø In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US laws surrounding Payroll, Benefits, WCB, and Employment Law.Ø Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Ø Excel with computer/HR software and databases, including Microsoft Office.
