Western's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (SSMD) is a leading Canadian centre of outstanding education and research shaping health care for the next generation.

Imaging Pathogens for Knowledge Translation (ImPaKT) is a one-of-a-kind facility that combines Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC )-certified containment level standards (CL2+ and CL3) with advanced non-invasive imaging equipment.


Responsibilities:


The Administrative Officer will facilitate and provide oversight for a wide range of administrative, human resources, business development, outreach, communications and financial functions and processes to ensure smooth and efficient administration of the ImPaKT Centre and the PRC.

The role will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Western's policies and procedures, to facilitate the achievement of the Centre's missions and objectives.

The Administrative Officer will monitor and evaluate current processes, and make recommendations regarding the development and implementation of new and revised processes to support continuous improvement and the use of best practices.

The role will facilitate the resolution of issues, and monitor and manage physical and financial resources.

The Administrative Officer will also provide guidance and support to staff, offer guidance on various strategic administrative processes, and monitor and manage resources to ensure the University community is served effectively.

In addition, the role will assist in the development and management of client relationships and contracts, provide project support, participate in strategic planning and relevant committees, and ensure the availability of necessary documentation, resources and information.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration or related discipline
  • Completion of, or working towards, Canadian Institute of Management Designation

Experience:

  • 5 years' administrative, human resources, and financial experience in a complex office environment; Experience managing and overseeing staff and projects
  • Experience identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships and partnerships with industry, government, privatesector, faculty, and researchers
  • Experience in strategic communications and public affairs with experience advising and supporting senior stakeholders within large, complex organizations
  • Business development experience with research, and in negotiating business arrangements in the private sector and industry preferred
  • Experience in a research/academic environment liaising between university and industry an asset
  • Experience leading large complex projects and working with major government research programs and/or experience in an academic research administration environment preferred
  • Experience in a complex organization with responsibility for managing community, notforprofit, and industrial partnerships preferred
  • Experience in national security and research security public policy management an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with financial budgeting and principles and with Human Resources principles and practices with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
  • Knowledge of relevant industry/external partners with an ability to match their needs with the research areas of faculty from various programs
  • Ability to establish and build strong relationships with senior leaders, academic and administrative staff, as well as community members
  • Ability to research new avenues of funding from federal and provincial granting agencies, industry, and other funding sources
  • Indepth knowledge of relevant business practices, intellectual property management and protection, including copyrights and patents
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of developments in the field of technology transfer, commercialization, entrepreneurship and knowledge mobilization
  • Indepth knowledge of the regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment
  • Communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, provide a rationale for action and with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports, develop proposals and deliver presentations
  • Ability to deal confidentially with information that has financial, political, regulatory and reputational implications
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
