With more than 5,000 donations bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.


Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada.

About the Human Resources Business Partner Role

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for providing day-to-day support to National Diabetes Trust's (NDT) employees and managers within both a unionized and non-unionized environment.

This role administers the HR function and activities of the organization by providing support for employee relations, regulatory compliance, training and development, benefits and disability management, policy interpretation, as well as assists with special projects (ie:
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion).

Highlights of the role include:

  • Working collaboratively on a variety of employee relations issues, provide coaching to leaders while actively managing progressive discipline concerns in both a unionized and nonunionized environment
  • Support disability/leave management as the first point of contact for NDT employees with our 3rd Party Provider
  • Management of all WSIB/WCB claims in association with our 3rd Party Provider
  • Administer and monitor compliance with HR policies and procedures, including Federal and Provincial employment laws under the guidance of the Director, HR, conducting training as needed
  • Using "fresh eyes", seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the HR function
  • Participate and contribute to NDT's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, including development of our monthly NDT Employee Connect newsletter, support our Employee Diversity Council (currently under development), and any other related project work
  • On a yearly basis, review, update where necessary, and rollout all required legislative compliance training for NDT employees
  • Conduct exit interviews for assigned client group; participate in employee investigations when required
  • Serve as backup for HR Coordinator. Tasks would include ensuring accuracy and integrity of system data while executing HR transactions in the HRIS; e.g., new hires, promotions, departures, and pay, title and reporting relationship changes
  • Annually, execute the annual merit pay process
  • Support other HR special projects or initiatives as needed
About You

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources, Business, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 35 years of Human Resources experience as an HR Generalist or Associate
  • 12 years of Human Resources experience within a unionized environment an asset
  • CHRP or in the process of achieving their CHRP
  • Embrace continuous improvement by proposing new and/or better way of doing things, ability to think proactively and independently
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality and approach issues with objectivity, diplomacy, and sensitivity
  • Exceptional attention to detail and committed to a high degree of accuracy, with a keen sense of urgency
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in changing circumstances
  • Possess indepth computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and expertise in advanced Excel functions
  • Experience using HR information systems, Ceridian Dayforce would be an asset
  • Able to handle multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines
