Coast Mountains School District 82 is a diverse and inclusive community nestled in the northwest of British Columbia. We celebrate a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds, catering to various learning styles and needs.

Our school district spans the traditional territories of four Indigenous nations - the Gitxsan, Haisla, Nisgaa, and Tsimshian, covering main communities like Hazeltons, Kitimat, Stewart, Terrace, and Thornhill.

  • The Gitxsan territory includes Gitanmaax, Gitanyow, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Glen Vowell, Hagwilget and Kispiox.
  • The Haisla territory is based in Kitamaat Village, and the Tsimshian territory comprises Kitselas and Kitsumkalum in Terrace and Thornhill.

Our schools thrive on the richness of Indigenous culture, benefiting both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners. With approximately 4,100 students in nineteen schools and 800 employees, our district offers diverse educational programs.

Operating on a budget of around $66 million, our district covers a vast geographical area akin to the size of Finland. We aim to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all our students, preparing them for a dynamic world.



The Teaching Vacancy:

School: District Staff, Terrace, BC
Position: Temporary, full-time (1.00 FTE) - First Nations Language and Culture Teacher
Start Date: September 1, 2024 until December 31, 2024


Qualifications and Experience:
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience teaching students of all grade levels.
  • Working knowledge of the revised BC Curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop individualized learning plans.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Compensation:
  • Salary based on collective agreement ranging from $59,867 to $110,712.
  • Relocation allowances for teachers from other areas.
  • Recruitment and Retention allowance for all teachers.

Isolation Allowance for our remote communities:
  • Hazelton - $1,213
  • Kitwanga - $1,441
  • Stewart - $4,547

Benefits: Coverage as per collective agreement including medical, dental, and group life insurance.
