Manager/Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs

As the Manager of Regulatory Affairs, you will be an integral part of a specialized consulting unit offering strategic regulatory and permitting guidance to clients in the private, Indigenous, and public sectors involved in resource, infrastructure, and community projects across Canada.

Main Responsibilities:


- Crafting and executing permitting strategies, tactical plans, and strategic counsel to mitigate regulatory uncertainties in projects;


- Conducting regulatory investigations and strategic scheming to identify critical aspects for positioning clients towards regulatory success;


- Assisting clients in navigating environmental assessments and permitting procedures, including facilitating fair and prompt processes;


- Supporting clients in Indigenous engagement efforts and fulfillment of agreement commitments related to regulatory and environmental affairs;


- Developing and executing government relations and broader public affairs initiatives to garner political backing and public advocacy for projects;


- Stakeholder management, providing strategic support for public consultations and communication strategies; and


- Contributing to the growth initiatives of one-eighty and mentoring junior professionals.

Essential Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:

Basic requirements:


- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;


- Proven experience in regulatory aspects of resource/industrial development, ranging from 4-10 years for the Manager position, and 7-18 years for the Senior Manager role;

- Experience in handling significant projects subject to Canadian federal, provincial, or territorial environmental assessments, either as a project initiator, consultant, or with a regulatory body;


- Willingness to explore uncharted territories, collaborating beyond your expertise in areas like government relations, Indigenous affairs, public relations, and environmental permitting;


- Proficiency in government relations and broader public affairs initiatives;


- Strong project management skills and a track record of devising and executing project delivery strategies.

Key skills:


- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills;


- Proficient negotiation abilities;


- Project leadership proficiency; and


- Persuasive and articulate communicator with exceptional written and verbal communication proficiencies.

Experience in the following fields is advantageous:


- Diverse background and experience with regulatory processes from multiple perspectives (e.g., as an initiator, consultant, or regulator with government);


- Government and public affairs;


- Indigenous engagement in Canada, including knowledge of Canadian legislation and legal principles concerning First Nations rights, title, and related matters; and


- Efficient client management and successful client acquisition/business development.

Compensation Range

The salary corresponds to experience, ranging from $85,000 to $135,000 for the Manager role, and $120,000 to $175,000 for the Senior Manager position.
