Why is this role important?

  • The Program Lead in the Clinical Administrative Databases (CAD)
  • Operations department works closely with the Manager and other Program Leads within the branch to organize and plan activities related to the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), and Hospital Morbidity Database (HMDB) databases. The Program Lead is responsible for a range of CAD operations activities and deliverables as they pertain to the acquisition and processing of provisional MED-ECHO data, the release of various analytical products and development of data quality deliverables.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Provides leadership and guidance to staff. Supervises, coaches, coordinates and monitors work, workload and performance of staff to ensure that quality is maintained and that learning opportunities are provided. Conducts annual performance management reviews.
  • 2. Leads planning, engagement, and development activities for the effective and timely processing of provisional MED-ECHO data into DAD-HMDB, including the release of data quality documentation.
  • 3. Develops plan and implements strategies to operationalize provisional MED-ECHO data activities and supports downstream product development.
  • 4. Participates and coordinates input from CAD, for AACIS and CIHI corporate projects such as interoperability, data governance, thematic priority data initiatives and hospital data modernization initiatives.
  • 5. Plans and implements strategies to solicit input and achieve consensus from key external and internal stakeholders regarding database development and data content improvement activities.
  • 6. Leads assigned CAD project initiatives. Follow CIHI's Project Management Office guidelines to develop project plans including development of project scope, responsibility assignment, milestones, resource requirements and associated tools to monitor project progress, including Gantt charts as applicable.
  • 7. Participates with the Manager in the development of the annual operating plan and budget for CAD Operations.
  • 8. Develops comprehensive, integrative knowledge of programs and services across CIHI to facilitate the development of best practice initiatives and continuous quality improvement efforts within the CAD databases.
  • 9. Establishes and facilitates strong working relationships within the CAD team and with other CIHI departments in producing timely, quality and responsive CAD products and services.
  • What you'll bring to the table
  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of experience/education in health sciences, epidemiology, public health, eHealth, health informatics, biostatistics, health information, or a similarly relevant field.
  • Five years experience in a healthrelated field, including some staff management/supervisory experience.
  • Conceptual understanding of health, the Canadian health care system, as well as a sound knowledge of health information and its uses for policy development, planning, management and evaluation purposes.
  • Experience in managing and working with large databases.
  • Experience in managing complex project(s) with various stakeholder groups, including budgetary and timeline accountability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong conceptual and problemsolving skills.
  • Knowledge of CIHI's programs and services is an asset.
  • Fluency in both official languages is preferred.
