The Trauma and Recovery Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the area post traumatic stress disorder.

The position duration is one year with a possible renewal for a 2nd year.

Our team is recruiting a scholar to become part of an active and innovative research program sponsored by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Public Health Agency of Canada, Veteran Affairs Canadian, Department of Defence and other funders that aims to increase understanding, treatment and prevention of post traumatic stress disorder in front line workers, public safety personnel, healthcare workers, military and civilians.

The Trauma and Recovery Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences is seeking up to five postdoctoral fellows to work in the following areas:

  • Mental health and wellbeing of healthcare workers and public safety personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic (Funders: Canadian Institutes of Health Research; Public Health Agency of Canada; and Private donation from Homewood Health)
  • Addressing and Preventing Military Sexual Trauma (MST) (Funders: Veterans Affairs Canada; Department of National Defence)
  • Novel Interventions for treating PTSD (Funder: Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Private Donor)

Key objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Professional development regarding knowledge transmission through abstracts, presentations, manuscripts
  • Teach undergraduate students about qualitative research methods
  • Write scientific papers, funding proposals, and abstracts
  • Prepare oral and poster presentations for scientific conferences
  • Liaise between the project centre and remote project sites and personnel
  • Work collaboratively with research team members and partners in the project
  • Work flexible hours to conduct qualitative interviews or intervention sessions with participants and other research team members
  • Document, analyze, interpret, and communicate data and results
  • Research material and conduct are handled per established protocols, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:

Eligible applicants will have completed a Ph.
D. (or equivalent) training in psychology, psychiatry, sociology, neurosciences & behaviour, or related discipline within the last five years.

The individual should have a background in mental health and post traumatic stress disorder, plus experience conducting randomized control trials and/or qualitative research.


Duration and Funding:

The term of the fellowship is one year with a possibility to renew for an additional year. The salary is $60,000 to $85,000 CAD/year and will also include benefits. The anticipated start date April 1st, 2023, but there is some flexibility regarding the start date. Documentation will be required to confirm that the PhD defense will be completed prior to the fellowship start date.
