What will be your daily pursuit?:
Collaborating with various departments and external agencies to safeguard the well-being of guests, staff, and visitors, while also overseeing the identification and resolution of environmental issues within Pursuit's Columbia Icefield operations

This seasonal summer role runs from April 13 to October 15, 2024 Or April 29 to October 14, 2024

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position is $25.00 per hour.

What will you do in this job?:

Environmental Oversight hours weekly)

  • Perform daily assessments/ written inspection of transfer bays, staff camp, mechanic tents, Glacier
  • Discovery Center and Skywalk to identify and address environmental spills and concerns.
  • Notify the General Manager of Columbia Icefields and the Director of Health & Safety of all spills and environmental concerns promptly as per CIF spill procedure policy
  • Liaise with Parks Canada monthly on outstanding environmental matters.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff involved in spill related issues.

Health and Safety Oversight Hours weekly)

  • Conducting regular patrols of property and conducting weekly property /fire inspections, ensuring follow up as required.
  • Conduct investigations regarding thefts, disturbances, and complete incident reports for management.
  • Participate in fire training sessions as a member of the first response team, and liaise with local emergency services as required
  • As an active participant in the workplace health and safety committee, you will work to follow up on identified items and drive safety throughout the operations
  • Provide first aid assistance to staff and guests that are injured at or near our operations as well as oversee the first aid program/equipment at the facilities
  • Act as the prime investigator/report writer for guest and staff injuries and undertake any necessary follow up
  • Support Health and Safety medical coordinator with critical medical incidents
  • Other duties as assigned
What skills and experience do you need for this job?:

  • Possess valid advanced First Aid/CPR training.
  • Previous environmental experience is an asset
  • Ability to use preventative maintenance software LIMBLE as means of daily inspections.
  • Demonstrate previous security / site safety experience or training, with previous fire training, OH&S experience or training
  • Calm under pressure, and demonstrate assertiveness, honesty, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, management, and guests
  • This position reports to the Director of Health and Safety, with dotted line responsibilities to the GM and Operations manager
  • Requires the ability to complete reports that will meet the expectations of the Worker's Compensation Board as well as our insurance providers
  • Training and guidance will be provided on internal reporting systems, but familiarity with computer systems and strong language skills will be needed
